Hard to envisage two teams going into a match in more contrasting runs of form.

Table-topping Middlesbrough are unbeaten in their past 10 league games, while Charlton are winless in their past nine.

Free-scoring Boro hammered Bolton 5-1 last time out and their 27 goals in their opening 12 matches is their most at this stage of a season since 1959-60 (30).

The Addicks badly need to pull out of the tailspin that has seen them skitter down the table since winning their first three games.

Nathan Jones' men did win 1-0 in this fixture last season so can look back on recent success on Teesside but this looks like a tall order.

Stoke have started the second half dominantly.

Luca Bombino gets down the left and his low ball is a dangerous one but well cleared by Preston for a corner.

The ball is sent in by Ethan Galbraith, and Luke Graham gets there before Daniel Iversen who commits himself to the punch, but the defender's header hits the outside of the post and goes wide.

The home side close to doubling their lead. Preston living very dangerously.

Two for August Priske, two for Birmingham City!

Lincoln are stung from a long throw.

Alex Cochrane hurls it into the box and Christoph Klarer flicks it on for Priske to beat George Wickens to the ball and score from four yards out.

Mountain to climb for the home side now.

Gaps beginning to appear in Preston now.

Stoke break the press and Robert Bozenik eventually gets the ball over to Jack McGlynn.

The American's deflected effort looks to be going wide but Daniel Iversen pushes the ball wide for a corner.

That resulting corner comes to nothing for Stoke.

An absolutely terrific header and Stoke break the deadlock!

A corner is cleared by North End but comes back to Jack McGlynn who whips in an excellent inswinging ball into the box and it is there to be attacked.

Ben Wilmot duly obliges and finds the far corner with an excellent, accurate header.

We finally have lift off in the Potteries just before the half-hour mark.

Here's how the Championship table looks before a ball is kicked on the final day of October.

Middlesbrough lead the way and the form guide will tell you they will be heavy favourites against Charlton today, but football doesn't always go the way you think it will - just ask Arsenal.

If Kim Hellberg's men do slip up there are a host of teams coming up on the rails behind them including Swansea, who are seeking a return to form after two defeats, and West Ham who host West Brom.

Towards the bottom there is no time to settle in for new Burnley boss Fabio Celestini who has to change Burnley's fortunes around quickly, while bottom two Derby and Preston are in desperate need of goals, wins, and general positivity around their clubs again.

The pressure was beginning to build at Carrow Road with Norwich City's start to the season mirroring last year's horror show which ultimately cost Liam Manning his job and led to Philippe Clement's rescue act.

Last weekend's 3-1 win at Charlton may just have steadied the nerves in Norfolk as we edge towards the Belgian's one-year anniversary, while today's meeting with Watford will be his 50th in charge.

"There's a really, really good environment here and I would like to put a zero behind that 50 but it's not about me, it's about the club and where we want to get it," Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk this week.

Watford have been walking a tightrope for much of the season and a 2-0 win over Charlton (you could forgive Addicks fans for seeing a pattern here) took the heat off boss Alessio Dionisi a fortnight ago but the headlines seem to never be far away from the Hornets.

A two-night stay at a hotel stirred the pot in the media with The Sun reporting players were "livid" after being "forced" to spend two nights at a facility near the Championship club's training ground.

"We went to a nice hotel. After training, we were allowed to go home, see our families and stuff, and then we reported for dinner, where we were together with the team, having good food, bonding," said midfielder Hector Kyprianou in response.

"We have a lot of new players still to integrate into the team, so we were doing things like that."
