Ramos positive after goal and victory: “A winning team knows how to win these games”

AC Milan striker Goncalo Ramos has revealed that he feels like he is in the best form since he arrived, after scoring against Atalanta.

Things were going so well for Milan after two-thirds of their game against Atalanta. A penalty from Ramos gave the Rossoneri the lead, before Adrien Rabiot doubled the advantage then Mario Gila’s header in the second half looked to have put the game to bed.

Atalanta came back swinging though and made it a very nervy finish. Gianluca Gaetano scored off the bench to give La Dea some hope, which grew when Nikola Krstovic made it a one-goal game in the 81st minute, but Milan survived the late scare to hang on and win 3-2.

Ramos spoke to Sky after the game to offer his take on what was a rollercoaster night for Milan, one that thankfully ended with three points. His words were relayed by MilanNews.

Is this your best bit of form since you’ve been here?

“We can honestly say this is the best moment for me here, but the important thing is that we’ve won two games in a row, we’re building confidence and self-esteem.

“It was a tough match, and the schedule is very demanding and tight. There’s little time to rest, and it’s important to win every game and build self-esteem.”

Rabiot was a little angry about the ending: what do you think?

“It’s difficult. We conceded two goals in the final minutes. They have a lot of quality, they pressed us, and we can still defend as a team. We can struggle, but what we want to build here is a winning team: a winning team knows how to win these games under any conditions.”

Could you have taken the second penalty straight down the middle?

“Looking back, I should have put it in the same corner, looking at the goalkeeper just before shooting. In reality, in the first penalty he wrong-footed me, so in the second I tried to surprise him, and instead he dived to the same side and saved it.”

Do you prefer to play with a team-mate who rotates around you or with two wingers who serve you?

“That’s a tough question. I prefer to play in a way that allows me to get more players into the box, whether it’s with one player circling around or two players coming in, because the real advantage of having such a dense box is, especially for me.

“The opposing team struggles to defend so many players, whether it’s me alone or other players. That’s the issue: we have to do as we did in the last match, put as many people, as many men as possible into the box, attack with as many players, with all the qualities we have. That’s the added value, in my opinion.”
