Zay Flowers could find success against the Bills' weak secondary

The Baltimore Ravens have struggled to produce consistently on offense without Lamar Jackson, but wide receiver Zay Flowers continues to deliver explosive plays for an offense searching for answers.

Flowers enters Week 8 with 40 receptions for 608 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 15.2 yards per catch through seven games. His production has made him Baltimore's most dangerous receiving threat and an increasingly important part of offensive coordinator Declan Doyle's game plan. Baltimore Ravens – baltimoreravens.com

The third-year receiver delivered another impressive performance against Cincinnati, catching eight passes for 137 yards and a touchdown during Baltimore's 35-13 loss. However, the Ravens couldn't capitalize on his production after halftime, continuing a troubling pattern of inconsistent offensive execution. Sunday's matchup against Buffalo could provide another opportunity for Flowers to produce significant numbers. The Bills enter Week 8 allowing approximately 286 passing yards per game, creating potential opportunities for Baltimore to attack a secondary dealing with injuries and personnel changes.

Buffalo will also be without suspended safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson, while slot cornerback Dee Alford has appeared on the injury report. Those developments could affect how the Bills attempt to defend Baltimore's receivers, particularly when Flowers lines up in different formations. Flowers' versatility gives Doyle opportunities to move him across the formation, creating favorable matchups through motion, bunch formations, and intermediate crossing routes.

His ability to generate yards after the catch could be particularly valuable against a defense that has struggled to consistently prevent explosive passing plays. The quarterback's ability to extend plays and threaten defenses with his mobility could create more downfield opportunities for Flowers.

However, Baltimore cannot become overly dependent on its leading receiver.

Rashod Bateman, Mark Andrews, Ja'Kobi Lane and Josh Cuevas must contribute enough to prevent Buffalo from concentrating its coverage on Flowers. The Ravens have struggled to maintain offensive momentum during consecutive losses, making explosive plays increasingly important.

Flowers has shown he can create those opportunities, but Baltimore must translate his production into sustained drives and touchdowns.

Against Buffalo, Flowers could again become the passing-game centerpiece.

The bigger challenge for the Ravens will be ensuring his individual success contributes to a complete offensive performance rather than another promising start that disappears after halftime.
