New England Patriots star quarterback Drake Maye believes that Rhamondre Stevenson is one of the best running backs in the NFL when drives are on the line on third down.
According to MassLive’s Mark Daniels, Maye stated to the media that Stevenson deserves recognition as being among the NFL’s best running backs in third-down situations, highlighting his importance to the offense in those situations.
“I told him the other day he’s one of the best third down backs in the league,” Maye said.
Stevenson has registered five first downs on 10 rushing attempts on third down this season. He’s also recorded a total of 27 rushing yards on third down and has given the Patriots a reliable option when they’ve needed to extend drives. His physical running style and versatility make him a valuable weapon in situations where converting for a first down is critical.
Between the tackles, Stevenson has demonstrated his ability to run with power, attack the middle of the defense and fight for extra yardage. His contributions help establish the Patriots’ ground game and create opportunities for the offense to move the chains.
Through seven games this season, Stevenson has totaled 77 carries for 285 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He has also recorded 20 receptions for 204 yards and a receiving touchdown, showcasing his versatility as both a runner and receiver outside of just third down situations.
Stevenson now has the Patriots’ Week 8 matchup against the Miami Dolphins to prepare for, which will present him with another opportunity to make an impact and keep drives alive. Miami has allowed 41 rushing first downs this season, making the upcoming matchup one that will present Stevenson with somewhat of a challenge.
