Sources: Ravens not expected to deal RB Derrick Henry before NFL trade deadline

Ravens running back Derrick Henry is not expected to be moved by the NFL trade deadline, league sources told ESPN, putting an end to speculation that Baltimore would be willing to deal the five-time Pro Bowler.

The Ravens recently informed Henry that they have no intention of trading him, according to league sources.

In recent weeks, speculation had built that Baltimore might be willing to deal its future Hall of Fame running back. There were suggestions that his two former head coaches, John Harbaugh in New York and Mike Vrabel in New England, could be interested, though there is no direct evidence that either coach inquired about Henry.

However, Baltimore is said never to have considered dealing Henry before Tuesday's 4 p.m. ET deadline. A league source told ESPN that the one Ravens running back that the Giants inquired about was Justice Hill.

The reason there had been speculation about Henry is because Baltimore has lost its top two quarterbacks, Lamar Jackson and Tyler "Snoop" Huntley, to injuries. Huntley is out for the season, and the Ravens are hoping Jackson can return later this season, which helped fuel their interest in former Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett.

The Ravens (4-5) believe Brissett can keep them competitive and in playoff contention until Jackson is ready to return. They are not ready to give up on this season, despite Thursday night's 33-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, which was their third straight defeat by at least 20 points -- a first in franchise history.

All along, whether the quarterback is Brissett or Jackson, Henry is expected to be there to support him.

Henry stressed after Thursday's game that the struggling Ravens need to "be better" but said he has not discussed a trade with management.

"I have not mentioned me going anywhere else," he said. "I'm saying, 'Let's go back to work. Let's try to get better and turn this thing around.'"

Baltimore is entering a more favorable part of its schedule. Its upcoming games are against the last-place Los Angeles Chargers on "Monday Night Football," followed by consecutive road games against the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans, a bye week and a home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Henry moved into seventh place on the NFL's career rushing list Thursday, passing both Jerome Bettis and LaDainian Tomlinson. The 11-year veteran has 13,707 career rushing yards and will have a chance this season to pass Curtis Martin (14,101 yards) for sixth place.
