FA Cup date confirmed for Colchester United-Worcester tie

The U’s will entertain their non-league opponents at the JobServe Community Stadium, with the tie kicking off at the traditional time of 3pm.

Confirmation came after the live television selections for the first round were finalised, meaning Danny Cowley’s side will play on the Saturday afternoon.

Writing on X, the U’s said: “Our Emirates FA Cup First Round tie against Worcester City at the JobServe Community Stadium has been confirmed for Saturday 7th November, with kick-off at 3pm.

“All further details, including tickets, will be announced in due course.”

Worcester booked their place in the first-round proper by beating Chorley 1-0 in their fourth qualifying round replay on Tuesday night, with a late winner settling the contest.

The two sides had been paired with Colchester when the first-round draw was made on Monday, before the qualifying tie had been decided.

Worcester had initially drawn with Chorley after scoring a 93rd-minute equaliser, forcing the replay at Sixways Stadium.

The visitors play in the Southern League Premier Central and the trip to North Essex represents a significant occasion, with the club already having confirmed they intend to arrange coach travel for their supporters.

They had been awaiting confirmation over whether the fixture would be selected for television before finalising arrangements with Colchester over matters including ticket prices and their away allocation.

The U’s will be looking to improve on their recent FA Cup record, at the first-round stage.

Colchester were knocked out at the same stage last season, losing 3-2 to MK Dons.

Ticketing details for the Worcester tie will be announced once they have been discussed and agreed between the two clubs.

This will be Colchester’s first FA Cup tie against non-league opposition since 2020 , when they lost on penalties at home to Marine FC after a 1-1 draw.
