The next time college football fans watch a quarterback take a sack and think, "Why didn't he throw that away?" perhaps it would be wise to pause and consider Aaron Philo.
The Florida quarterback was flushed out of the pocket by strong Georgia pressure in the first quarter of the rivalry game on Saturday, Oct. 31, and began to stumble due to the speed of the play.
As he lost his footing, Philo panicked and tried to scoop a throw to the sideline. However, it didn't make it where it had to, and Georgia DB Ellis Robinson IV intercepted the wounded duck for the Bulldogs: one of the most brutal turnovers college football has seen since CJ Bailey's game-losing fumble earlier this year.
As is so common, insult accompanied injury. It looked like Florida's defense was going to get a stop, but a roughing the kicker call on Florida on the following punt eventually landed the Bulldogs in the end zone, closing the loop on the type of horrifying sequence that isn't out of place on Halloween if you're a Gators fan.
There is, of course, a lot of football left to play. But next time, if Philo feels his feet coming out from under him, it will be better to live another down.
