Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley praise Cam Jurgens ahead of Ravens debut

The Baltimore Ravens made a significant investment in their offensive line by acquiring Cam Jurgens from the Philadelphia Eagles. Early reviews from the quarterback room suggest he is already making a strong impression.

Jurgens arrived in Baltimore while recovering from a concussion, giving him an unusual start with a new team, offense, and group of teammates. Despite those circumstances, he has worked to get up to speed with offensive coordinator Declan Doyle's system while building chemistry with the quarterbacks.

Both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley have noticed how quickly the new center has picked things up, particularly in communication and understanding the offense. Jackson, speaking with the media on Friday, said he was especially impressed by how quickly Jurgens began making calls on the field and expressed excitement about playing alongside him.

"[Cam Jurgens is] awesome, man. That guy's smart. He's calling out stuff already. I was shocked. I'm like, damn, he's a pro. I'm looking forward to playing with Cam. It's going to be great. He's going to be great for us. [He's a] great addition to the squad for sure."

Jackson's assessment is significant, given the importance of communication between a quarterback and his center. Jurgens must learn the terminology and responsibilities of a new offense while helping coordinate front-side protection, and his ability to make calls confidently could help the Ravens establish greater consistency along the offensive line.

Tyler Huntley sees Jurgens putting in the extra work

Huntley has also seen his new teammate's preparation firsthand, including the work Jurgens puts in when he's not taking snaps. Huntley also spoke with media members, and he praised Jurgens' willingness to keep asking questions and working through assignments, rather than limiting his attention to the reps he gets on the field. He also emphasized how well Jurgens has handled his responsibilities when he gets another opportunity to work with the offense.

"[Cam Jurgens] is doing a great job. Even when he's not in, or when he just took his reps that day, he's been in the back asking what the plays are, working through his calls. When he gets back in, he's been amazing... He's been doing a great job. He's been doing great, going out there every single play that he's out there [and] making his calls. He's doing great"

Jurgens could bring stability to Baltimore's offensive line

The Ravens have dealt with considerable turnover along the interior of their offensive line, making Jurgens' arrival particularly important. His ability to communicate protections and build chemistry with the quarterbacks could help Baltimore improve its execution as the offense works to become more consistent.

Jurgens also brings experience at center, a position that requires more than winning individual blocking assignments. He must help identify defensive looks, communicate adjustments, and ensure the players around him understand their responsibilities before the snap.

The early praise from Jackson and Huntley suggests Jurgens is taking those responsibilities seriously. The next step is translating that preparation into game-day performance, starting with Baltimore's matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

If Jurgens can turn his quick grasp of the offense into dependable communication and stronger execution up front, the Ravens could benefit from his presence well beyond his individual performance at center.
