Tempers flared in the second half of Real Betis’ match against Barcelona after Abde Ezzalzouli scored to make it 2-2. In the buildup, Fermín López had gone down following a tussle, and Lamine Yamal stepped in as players gathered around him.
Yamal and Betis midfielder Facundo Bernal became involved in the confrontation. Bernal leaned his head into Yamal’s, and the referee showed him a straight red card in the 54th minute. Yamal was booked for his part in the altercation.
The dismissal left Betis with 10 players and turned an already heated moment into one of the match’s biggest talking points. Barcelona went on to win 5-2, keeping its perfect start to the LaLiga season intact.
