Departing LIV Golf star says 'I'm glad it's over' as he leads on another tour

Adrian Meronk has admitted he is likely leaving LIV Golf, and he is enjoying life on the DP World Tour, holding a share of the lead at the halfway stage at Delhi Golf Club

NEW DELHI — Adrian Meronk was relieved to take sanctuary in the clubhouse after taking a share of the lead on a grueling day at the DP World India Championship.

The Pole is tied for first place at eight-under-par alongside Angel Hidalgo, Joost Luiten and Thomas Detry after carding a three-under-par 69 for his second round at Delhi Golf Club.

Meronk, who won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews two weeks ago, played just a handful of holes on Thursday after a five-hour thunderstorm delay, which has put the tournament behind schedule and caused chaos for DP World Tour officials to resolve.

That forced the 33-year-old into a marathon day in 90F heat and sapping humidity on Friday, but he was up for the challenge. He signed for a five-under-par 67 for his opening round, and he returned after lunch to consolidate his excellent start to the tournament.

An exhausted Meronk was relieved his work was done. "Very long day. I'm just glad it's over, to be honest. I'm knackered," he said.

"It was a lot of solid golf. I'm happy with my position. Obviously, a little bit disappointed with the bogey on the last, but it's still a good round, and I'm happy with the day's work.

"The game feels quite solid, and I feel like mentally I'm in a good place, and I think we have a good strategy for this course. Just keep on going and see what happens."

Polish media reported earlier this month that Meronk had no intention of signing up for LIV Golf's reincarnation as the breakaway league tries to emerge and rebuild from bankruptcy.

But he told reporters on Friday that his future is undecided, though he is leaning toward playing full-time on the DP World Tour. He said: "I haven't made an official decision yet. I'm still going to wait 2-3 weeks, I think, and then see what happens. But most likely, I'll stay on DP and compete back on DP."

Meronk endured a poor season on LIV, but he has regained his form on the DP World Tour in recent weeks, and he intends to make the most of it.

"My game felt like it was coming along for last few months. I just couldn't finish the tournament well," he said. "Suddenly, it feels like I'm gaining the momentum.

"The confidence is growing, and it's a great feeling. Just when you really can trust your golf game, when you hit shots to your targets, it's just so much fun.

"So I think finally the game is in a good spot, and I am just trying to enjoy it and play to my spots and keep on going."
