The Hornets were 2-0 up at halftime after a battling performance, and looked to be on track for their first win on the road since February.
But a disastrous start to the second half saw Dionisi's side trail 3-2 by the 71st minute, an unbelievable turnaround even by Watford's chaotic standards.
Speaking after the game, a deflated Dionisi admitted that he still could not fathom how his side collapsed with such ease and so quickly in the second half, after such a positive opening 45 minutes.
“It’s difficult to explain the difference between the first and second half," he conceded. "Football is crazy, sometimes matches change during the match, but in this case, it’s difficult to explain, and I’m furious.
“I’m furious for this result, I’m furious for my players and I’m furious for me, because it’s impossible to lose in 50 minutes when, at the end of the first half, the score was 2-0, it’s impossible.
“The match changed in five minutes; after five minutes in the second half, I didn’t understand why [it was different], it was impossible."
The Italian head coach questioned his side's desire amid a flurry of mistakes, and insisted that he wants to be a winner despite his side's current struggles.
“We arrived late to every situation," he critiqued. If I speak about the first, second or third goal, yes, there are some mistakes, but I watched too many mistakes in the second half.
“It’s impossible to win if we arrive late, and if we don’t want to win. When there is a corner, I want to win. When there is a cross, for us or for the opponent, I want to win in every situation.
“In the first half, I saw this. In the second half, after five minutes, the match changed, it’s impossible.
“We spoke after the first half in the changing room, ‘Okay guys, good. It’s impossible to defend for 50 minutes in the second half. We need the courage to play with the ball, without the ball, [in a] mid-block, because it’s impossible for us to stay high for 90 minutes’.
“It’s difficult to explain this, but now it’s probably better to speak about our opposition and our future, because it’s important to know our quality, because our quality is probably this.”
