Dylan Tait hoping Dundee Utd honour can lead to ultimate reward after impressive Tannadice start

The in-form Dundee United midfielder is desperate to break into Sebastien Pocognoli's squad after being handed the Utd captain's armband

Dundee United's Dylan Tait celebrates scoring

Dylan Tait is hoping he can maintain his impressive start at Dundee United and catch the eye of Scotland manager Sebastien Pocognoli.

The midfielder has been in top form since he made the summer switch from Falkirk to Jim Goodwin’s side.

He has been an integral part of United’s team and has also worn the armband with captain Ross Graham sidelined.

Tait admitted his dream is to cap things off with a Scotland call-up.

The 24-year-old stated: “That would be my dream to play for my country.

“I am still quite young so if I can have a good season to put myself out there then hopefully the manager is watching there is no reason I can’t.

“First and foremost, I need to keep doing well on the pitch for Dundee United and keep up my performances of late.

“I always believed in my own ability and backed myself. I just needed that opportunity and got it last season.

“I took it and I think I did well, then going into this season I have really found my feet in the last two games.

“I just want to keep that going.

“It is a really good league and an enjoyable league and there is not a lot between the teams.

“If you can get good momentum that can keep you in good stead.”

He is confident that this is only the start and that his United team will get even stronger. Goodwin has also shown real faith in Tait by giving him the on-field skipper responsibilities.

“It is a new challenge for me as it is something I have not done before,” the 24-year-old added.

“On the pitch I try to lead and organise so that has become second nature to me but I am really enjoying it and it is an honour for me and my family.

“As skipper I speak my part when it is the right time and as I said on the pitch try to organise and carry out what the manager wants us to do.

“I just try to do that and lead by example.”

The midfield trio of Zidane Iqbal, Lyall Cameron and Tait have been key in the recent revival.

Tait admitted:“I am really pleased. Obviously it was a new challenge for me coming from Falkirk at the start of the season.

“The last few games have been everything I wanted it to be in terms of results and performances on the pitch. “I just want to keep that going.

“Lyall and Zidane are two good players and the last couple of weeks we have complemented each other well in there.

“We all have good football brains and it is easy to gel with that type of player and I am loving it at the moment.”

United have registered back-to-back wins over St Mirren and Hibs. They now face a St Johnstone side with whom they are level on points.

A win at McDiarmid Park would give either side a three point advantage.

Tait claimed: “St Johnstone have started really well and are above us in the league as well.

“I know how it is when you come up from the Championship, and you have that good momentum. “You can see they are playing with positivity and are all in good spirits.

“They are not used to losing games so we know going there it is going to be a hard game but a win jumps us up the table.

“So on the back of two good wins and two clean sheets we just want to keep looking up the way.”
