Harry Kane scooped the ultimate prize on Monday night as he won the Ballon d'Or for the first time in his career.

The Ballon d'Or is widely regarded as the prize awarded to the best player in the world for the previous season and after notching an incredible 73 goals for club and country, winning the Bundesliga and getting to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League and the semi-final of the World Cup with England, Kane scooped the prestigious award at the ceremony held in London.

It was a three-horse race for the prize, with Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe and Barcelona star Lamine Yamal both also in the running to be named the best in the world.

But Kane took the gong and was an emotional man giving a lengthy speech after picking up the trophy.

In his acceptance speech, he paid tribute to Tottenham, with whom he had spent his entire career with before making the move to Bayern Munich in 2023.

"I want to say thank you to Tottenham Hotspur," he said. "I wouldn't be where I am today without Tottenham, for sure. I was there from 11 years old. All the guidance, the coaches, you allowed me to live my dream. So, for sure, without all those moments together, all the ups and down along the way of that journey has led me to this moment here today. So I just want to say thank you to Tottenham Hotspur."

Kane had some incredible teammates during his time in north London, although he was arguably the best to ever pull on the Lilywhite shirt during that spell, as evidenced by that Ballon d'Or win now.

  • August 2011 — Kane made his Tottenham debut in a Europa League qualifier against Hearts.
  • April 2014 — He scored his first Premier League goal in a 5-1 win over Sunderland.
  • May 2017 — Kane claimed a second successive Golden Boot with 29 league goals.
  • August 2021 — Kane missed pre-season training amid Manchester City interest, then stayed at Spurs.
  • February 2023 — He passed Jimmy Greaves to become Tottenham's all-time leading scorer.

He became the club's all-time top scorer during his time in the Premier League, scoring 280 goals. He would be many people's pick for the best player they played with in N17, but who would the striker himself name?

Plenty of former players have named the underrated Mousa Dembele as the best player they have played with, but when Kane was asked the question he named someone he only shared a pitch with 25 times.

“Gareth Bale," Kane told JD Football's official TikTok channel.

Amazing talent, incredible pace, technique. Had an all-round game and has obviously done it at the highest level as well.

Kane and Bale played alongside one another when the Welshman returned to Tottenham on loan from Real Madrid at the end of his career. The scored 27 goals between them in those 25 matches, with seven assists.

Bale himself is a Tottenham legend and alongside Kane sit as Spurs' two most expensive transfer departures, at around £100million each.

The Welshman was nominated for the Ballon d'Or five times, although never won it, with his highest finish being sixth in 2016.
