Sutton's predictions v Bad Day At The Office star John Hannah

Premier League champions Arsenal endured one of the most embarrassing nights in their history when they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Fleetwood Town on Tuesday, but can they bounce back at Anfield on Sunday?

"Arsenal put a pretty strong team out but were humiliated by Fleetwood, and at Highbury too," said BBC Sport football expert Chris Sutton.

"Liverpool seem to be getting it together so this will be a big test for Mikel Arteta's side after the week they have had."

Sutton is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against AI, BBC Sport readers and a variety of guests.

For week eight, he takes on actor John Hannah, star of new action thriller Bad Day At The Office, who is an Arsenal fan.

Bad Day At The Office will be in UK and Irish cinemas from 30 October.

Do you agree with their predictions? You can pick your own below.

The most popular scoreline selected for each game is used in the scoreboards and tables at the bottom of this page.

A correct result (picking a win, draw or defeat) is worth 10 points. The exact score earns 40 points.

Hannah, also known for his roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Sliding Doors and The Mummy, has been an Arsenal fan since he moved to London from Scotland more than 40 years ago.

As a boy growing up in East Kilbride he had hopes of becoming a footballer long before realising his acting aspirations.

Many of his childhood friends, including Rangers legend Ally McCoist, would go on to forge professional careers.

"I'd like to compare myself to Bukayo Saka," Hannah explained when describing what kind of player he was. "I played on the right wing and I was quite small and fast and I scored a lot of of goals.

"My dream was to be a footballer, and it was all I ever thought about. I played or trained all the time - but, like many dreams, it didn't come true.

"As I got a bit bigger I kind of segued back into midfield but when I discovered women and beer then I kind of stopped playing.

"Once I went to drama school I got very focused on that and then with moving to London and working away, around probably 20 years passed without me kicking a ball.

"But then in 2013 I did a film called Shooting for Socrates, where I played Northern Ireland manager Billy Bingham at the 1986 World Cup.

"We were down in Spain doing some filming there and had a bit of a kickaround and I remember thinking 'yeah, I've still got it you know!'

"Not anymore though - since then I have snapped my ACL [anterior cruciate ligament] which has put paid to football and a lot of sport. It is really just cycling and running for me now."

Chris Sutton and John Hannah were speaking to BBC Sport's Chris Bevan.

The AI predictions were generated using Microsoft Copilot Chat - we simply asked the tool to 'predict this weekend's Premier League scores'.

Premier League predictions

Saturday, 31 October

  • Stamford Bridge, 12:30 GMT

Everyone will be watching this game because of Michael Carrick's situation at Manchester United, and wondering how much longer he will be in charge.

Carrick kept his job after the heavy defeats against Como and Bournemouth last week and my view is that, by keeping him on for now, they are possibly just prolonging the misery for him, really.

Going by how insipid United were against Bournemouth, it is hard to see them going to Chelsea and getting anything.

Chelsea were not much better in their defeat by Tottenham last weekend and since then they have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Liverpool too.

Xabi Alonso is still without the injured Joao Pedro so I expect Danny Welbeck will lead their attack like he did against Liverpool, and Cole Palmer will be back after his suspension.

Chelsea have had a bad week but I can't see things changing for United, even if Bruno Fernandes is back in their team.

Sutton's prediction: 3-1

John's prediction: With Carrick under pressure, it just feels like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all over again - he won a few games in a row then they gave him the job and now he doesn't win any. 3-1

AI's prediction: 2-1

  • Vitality Stadium, 15:00

Bournemouth are flying at the moment, with successive wins over Aston Villa, Manchester United and AC Milan.

Leeds are extremely well structured, however, even if they are not free-scoring this season.

I am sure Daniel Farke would like his team to score more goals, but they don't give away a lot either.

Bournemouth are on a great run but I wonder how much the past week has taken out of them, and that makes me think Leeds could nick a point.

Sutton's prediction: 1-1

John's prediction: This will be a good game, both teams are performing quite well at the moment. 2-2

AI's prediction: 1-1

  • Gtech Community Stadium, 15:00

Nottingham Forest should have beaten Ipswich last time out but that draw was another example of a game where they haven't taken their chances.

I do think things will turn for Oliver Glasner's side eventually but they are in the bottom three and he is desperate for a win.

I thought Brentford would beat Hull last week but they ended up sharing the points. The Bees do draw a lot of games and that is probably the most sensible prediction here.

Sutton's prediction: 1-1

John's prediction: Brentford at home will maybe give them an edge. 2-1

AI's prediction: 2-1

  • Coventry Building Society Arena, 15:00

This is big for both teams. It's the battle of the bottom two... and I think Sunderland will win it.

Coventry do not lack any effort and they have got plenty of pace on the counter-attack, but their problem is that they just don't have the quality of most other Premier League teams.

Sunderland got a good win over Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night and I am surprised they have been struggling so badly in the league.

The Black Cats are a well-coached team and while I think European football is affecting them in many ways, Brian Brobbey's return from injury is a big positive, and he should help them nick this.

Sutton's prediction: 0-1

John's prediction: I'm surprised by the run Sunderland are on, am still going to put them down for a win here. 0-2

AI's prediction: 1-1

  • MKM Stadium, 15:00

Both of these promoted teams have got 10 points so far, which shows what decent starts they have made.

I've not picked either of them to get a win yet in my predictions (see table at bottom of page) but that is going to change this week despite the obvious result to go for being a draw.

I could easily make a case for Hull because we know they will give this a real go, but I am actually going to back Ipswich to nick an away win. The Tractor Boys have definitely got a goal or two in them and have already won once on the road, at Crystal Palace.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

John's prediction: Hull are doing really well. 2-0

AI's prediction: 1-1

  • Etihad Stadium, 15:00

Manchester City knocked Brighton out of the Carabao Cup on penalties on Wednesday but I don't think we learned too much because both sides made so many changes.

I backed both teams to win last week - and was wrong both times - but I felt City played well against Aston Villa and were a bit unlucky to lose, and the same applied to Brighton in their defeat against Liverpool - they definitely had enough chances to get something from the game.

I am covering this game for Radio 5 Live. There should be some goals in it, and I can see Erling Haaland getting a couple of them.

Sutton's prediction: 3-1

John's prediction: Brighton have really impressed me but I am still going with City at home. 3-1

AI's prediction: 3-1

  • Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, 17:30

Crystal Palace are through to the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after beating Fulham on Wednesday, and it felt like Eagles boss Pierre Sage needed that result because of his side's poor league form.

Tottenham are on the up at the moment though, and they performed really well in their win at Chelsea even if they did need a bit of luck along the way with Mike Penders punching their first goal into his own net.

However they manage it, the important thing for Spurs is they have found a way of getting results now and I can see them getting another one here.

I do worry for Sage because it seems a lot of Palace fans are uncertain about him and feel his team are too easy to get at.

Because of that, I am going for Spurs to score a couple more goals here.

Sutton's prediction: 2-0

John's prediction: I used to watch Palace a bit when I first moved to London. Spurs have improved but I don't see them winning this one. 0-1

AI's prediction: 2-0

  • Villa Park, 20:00

I am not surprised that Fulham's Premier League form has picked up because after watching them earlier in the season I thought they should have more points than they had.

The Cottagers are a well-structured team but I still don't see them stopping an in-form Aston Villa, or their striker Nicolas Jackson, at this moment in time.

Villa are on a great run in the league and I am expecting more goal action from Jackson here.

Sutton's prediction: 3-1

John's prediction: After being a bit up and down, Villa are back at where they were at last season but I have been to see Fulham a few times and my mate is a season-ticket holder there. They have started to kick on too. 0-0

AI's prediction: 2-1

Sunday, 1 November

  • Anfield, 16:30

Liverpool proved me wrong against Brighton last week, because they didn't just win, they played well too.

After conceding so many goals last season, you can see they have really tightened things up. Arsenal don't give much away either, so this is going to be very close.

Alexander Isak is scoring goals again for the Reds, and they will be full of confidence coming into this game.

You could make a case for it ending up a repeat of the result we saw at the end of last season, when Dominik Szoboszlai's brilliant free-kick meant Liverpool edged a 1-0 win.

I do think we will see the same scoreline, just with a different winner.

Sutton's prediction: 0-1

John's favourite Arsenal players: Ian Wright, Tony Adams and then Thierry Henry stand out of course but, after that, I was always a big fan of Cesc Fabregas. Santi Cazorla was fantastic too - he was Arsenal through and through - so skilful and so committed.

John's prediction: Liverpool's early form was a bit questionable but they have got better - I am still going to say two-nil to the Arsenal though, because Martin Odegaard will make the difference. 0-2

John's title prediction: I don't actually think we have clicked yet this season and if we find our gear then it is going to be hard to stop us. I don't see anyone other than City putting together a strong challenge.

AI's prediction: 1-2

Monday, 2 November

Everton's age-old problem is how Thierno Barry is going to perform because they rely so heavily on how well he is playing up front.

To be fair to David Moyes's side, they carried more of a threat than I expected in their defeat by Arsenal and I can see them getting chances here, because Newcastle are so open.

The Magpies will absolutely go for it again here and I have a sneaky feeling they will leave the door ajar for Everton to pinch the points.

Sutton's prediction: 1-2

John's prediction: Newcastle have been a bit hit and miss. Everton are always pretty solid though. 1-1

AI's prediction: 2-0

Chris got five correct results, including two exact scores, from the 10 games in week eight, giving him a total of 110 points.

That was enough to beat the collective efforts of the BBC readers, who managed four correct results, with two exact scores, for a tally of 100 points.

He also beat both of his guests - Cbeebies star Waffle the Wonder Dog and his owner Simon, played by actor James Merry.

Waffle's three correct results with no exact scores gave him 30 points, while James got four correct results with one exact score for 70 points, meaning they ended up with a average total of 50 points for the BBC predictions league table.

For the fourth week in a row, however, the weekly win went to AI.

It also managed five correct results but with three exact scores, leaving it with 140 points.

There was only one game where everyone picked the right outcome - Arsenal's 2-0 win over Everton - and this time a lot of people got the right scoreline too.

Chris and AI both managed it and so did the BBC readers. From around 28,000 predictions, that was the most popular score selected with more than 11,500 of you getting it exactly right.
