Aaron Pico thinks Jean Silva's activity and availability should pay off.
Silva (18-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) is eager for his shot at featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski (29-4 MMA, 16-3 UFC), who finished Movsar Evloev in impressive fashion at UFC 333. Volkanovski and his head coach see Aljamain Sterling as more worthy, but Pico (15-5 MMA, 2-1 UFC) disagrees.
Volkanovski is also entertaining the option of moving up to lightweight to challenge champion Justin Gaethje in a double retirement fight.
"I think Volk is in a position he can do whatever he wants," Pico told MMA Junkie. "Like Dana White said, I mean, it's kind of hard to tell the guy no. He's a true warrior. He's fought everybody. He's gone up and fought, and yeah, I don't know. I mean, if there's anybody that's going to fight for the title, in my opinion, I think it's probably going to be Jean Silva if he was to fight Volkanovski. He's a guy that's been fighting whoever, whenever.
"So maybe they're going to make that happen. As far as Volk going up, I don't know. That would be an awesome fight to see, Volkanovski vs. Justin Gaethje. They're two guys that I love and what Volk said, they both retire after that. That would be kind of a crazy fight. So I don't know. I wish I had all the answers, but I don't. All I know is that I'm ready to go and to put on the best fights that I can possibly do."
Pico put together his first win streak in the octagon after knocking out Losene Keita in the first round at UFC 333.
"Fighting a Volkanovski would be an ultimate dream of mine, and especially winning the belt from him," Pico said. "But I hope he does stick around, and I was able to get that opportunity."
