Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna has been ruled out of India’s upcoming five-match ODI series against New Zealand, after failing to recover in time from a hamstring injury. The Karnataka seamer will instead join the India A squad for the third unofficial Test against New Zealand A, subject to him clearing the Return to Play (RTP) assessment with an eye on the Test series that follows.

Cricbuzz had reported on October 28 that Prasidh’s participation in the one-dayers commencing November 4 was in serious doubt, and it was understood that coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Shubman Gill were keen on his availability for the two-match Test series. Prasidh sustained a hamstring injury during the second ODI against West Indies in Guwahati on September 30, where he sent down just five overs before going off the field.

In a statement, the BCCI said that Prasidh “will need additional time to build up the workload required to be ready for matches”. No replacement has been named in the one-day squad, which is already without Jasprit Bumrah, who has been rested.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was initially named for the entirety of the one-day leg, will now feature in the first match of the series alone before linking up with the A squad for the third unofficial Test starting November 6. The decision has been made to give Nitish red-ball game-time ahead of the first Test in Wellington on November 19.

India’s updated ODI squad for the first three NZ ODIs: Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Anshul Kamboj, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Kishan, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy

India’s updated ODI squad for fourth and fifth ODIs: Shreyas Iyer (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Tilak Varma, Ishan Kishan (vice-captain), Axar Patel, Naman Dhir, Auqib Nabi, Gurnoor Brar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Arshdeep Singh, Kumar Kushagra, Mohammed Siraj, Yash Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav

Mohammed Siraj added to India A squad for second unofficial Test

Pacer Mohammed Siraj has been included in India A’s squad for the second unofficial Test against New Zealand A commencing on October 31 in Christchurch’s Hagley Oval. Siraj joins a host of Test regulars in the Dhruv Jurel-led A squad that agonisingly missed out on a remarkable win in the first unofficial Test in Lincoln, as New Zealand A held on for a draw in the fading light.

KL Rahul, who played the Lincoln game, will not feature in Christchurch as he prepares for the ODI series.

India A's updated squad for the second four-day game against New Zealand A: Dhruv Jurel (captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Yash Rathod, R Smaran, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Shikhar Mohan, Mukesh Choudhary, Mukesh Kumar, Manav Suthar, Kumar Kushagra
