Liverpool could look to the January transfer market to sign a new midfielder, especially after Dominik Szoboszlai picked up an injury during Saturday's comeback win over Brentford. He was forced off after only 32 minutes, suffering a recurrence of the hamstring problem he picked up while on international duty. After the final whistle, manager Andoni Iraola admitted that Szoboszlai is likely to be sidelined for 'a while' in a frustrating blow for the Reds.

The former RB Leipzig playmaker has been a key player for Liverpool over the last couple of seasons and will be sorely missed if he is ruled out for an extended period.

It's not yet known when Szoboszlai will be fit again, but given Iraola's worrying comments, it seems he may not return for at least a few weeks, if not months.

If he is sidelined for a large chunk of the season, Liverpool could dip into the January market to find a replacement ahead of the Premier League run-in.

Liverpool were already considering dipping into the January market before this and are admirers of Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, who is attracting no shortage of interest from bigger clubs.

Now a fully-fledged England international, the 23-year-old will be out of contract in the summer of 2027 and Bournemouth are aware that his value will shrink as that deadline approaches.

As a result, it's been suggested they would be open to selling Scott in January, with The Athletic reporting that the Cherries will consider offers around the £100million mark.

Scott would be a blockbuster signing for Liverpool, but it's claimed they have no plans to move for his signature in the winter window.

The report states that the Reds consider themselves well-stocked in the midfield department, with high hopes for academy duo Trey Nyoni and James McConnell.

Liverpool would reportedly welcome Bournemouth keeping Scott until the summer, when the situation could change.

They could view him as a long-term replacement for Alexis Mac Allister, who was disappointed not to have been offered a new contract earlier this year.

It's also said that Chelsea are considered the frontrunners for Scott at this stage, having tried and failed to sign the Bournemouth youngster in the summer.
