Aedan Gilfedder put the hosts ahead in the first half before Sean Fyfe added the second during the peak of Storm Boelo.
Billy Hutchinson set up a tense finale at New Western Park when he pulled one back for the Binos, but Frew held on to set up a third round tie with either Cumbernauld Colts or Banks O’Dee.
The club are taking part in the competition for the first time in their history this season after achieving their SFA License and Quigley dedicated the victory to the hard-working volunteers who have made days like Saturday possible.
Speaking to Gazette post-match, he said: “I’m proud of the boys and the performance was really good.
“We had a good shape to us off the ball and deservedly went ahead before half-time and we could have scored a few more.
“We had to play the conditions, you can’t always play nice football so the first thing we had to do was win our headers and tackles then pick up on the second balls.
“The wind changed at half-time because it was with us both ways and at one time I did think it was going to be called off with the wind and rain just after we went 2-0 up.
“They are a really good side with the players they have got – the big striker caused us problems when he came on at half-time, but we defended our box well.
“All the guys on the committee have worked really hard to get the license in place which allows us the opportunity to have days like this and compete in these competitions, so the win is for them as well as the players and the fans.”
Sunday evening’s third round draw presented Frew with a home tie against the winner of the tie between Cumbernauld Colts and Banks O’Dee which was abandoned on Saturday with Colts leading 3-2 – the two sides will meet again this weekend.
It presents an opportunity for Jimmy Quigley’s side to potentially set up a dream tie with the likes of Rangers or Celtic should they progress – but the Frew boss isn’t looking that far.
He said: “We’re glad it’s a home draw but whoever comes through that tie is a good side so we would need to put it on Saturday if we want to progress.”
Frew are back in action this evening [Wednesday] when they host Troon on Premier Division duty.
Kick-off at NWP is 7.45pm.
