Regional qualifying matches for SICCI league held in Salem

Talented young people from Sri Lankan refugee families living in rehabilitation camps across Tamil Nadu took part in a regional qualifying match, held in coordination with the Commissionerate of Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), on Monday.

The matches are supported by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the non-governmental organisations : Organization for Eelam Refugees Rehabilitation (OFERR) and Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS). The matches will identify talented young players and teams in cricket, football, badminton, table tennis, and volleyball to represent their camps at the Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) corporate premier league 2026, a platform offered by the SICCI. The league brings corporate and host community teams together on the same field and gives refugee youth an opportunity to compete alongside them as equals.

More than 500 young people from rehabilitation camps in various districts took part. The regional qualifying matches were held on Monday in Salem. Winning teams and outstanding players will progress to the next stage of selection on the way to the Chennai finals.
