Veteran writer criticizes Chiefs GM Brett Veach before trade deadline

Kansas City Chiefs general manager faced criticism from veteran sportswriter Scott Kacsmar on social media this week ahead of the 2026 NFL trade deadline.

In response to a tweet about the virtues of former Chiefs GM John Dorsey, Kacsmar sounded off on Veach, describing the long-tenured executive as a "leech" on his predecessor's success.

Kansas City failed to win a Super Bowl during Dorsey's tenure, but the Chiefs undoubtedly benefited from his eye for talent — which saw the team select Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce in the NFL draft.

Take a look at Kacsmar's assessment of Veach, which was posted to Twitter on November 9:

While Veach has struggled to convert early draft picks into superstars over the last few seasons, his resume — bolstered by three Super Bowl championships — makes him one of the most respected general managers in the NFL and has provided Kansas City with unparalleled stability during his time as the Chiefs' top decision-maker.
