Ben Duckett hit a career-best 167 as England snapped their losing streak with a 55-run win over Sri Lanka in the final league match of the ODI tri-series. Duckett and Tom Banton (74) put on 163 for the first wicket in England's 386/5 before Liam Dawson took a career-best 4 for 49 to bowl Sri Lanka out for 331 despite Pavan Rathnayake's belligerent 118.

Sent in to bat at the Gaddafi Stadium, England were kept quiet by an opening maiden from Asitha Fernando but the Sri Lankan seamers soon began to drop short and the openers made them pay. England added 62/0 in the Powerplay before Duckett reached his fifty off 46 balls. It was Dasun Shanaka who broke through in his first over, with Banton chopping a slower ball onto his stumps.

Duckett went to score his sixth ODI hundred off 89 balls and added 107 off 75 for the second wicket with Harry Brook, who made 44 off 34. Brook fell to a leading edge off a scoop, caught by Fernando off his own bowling, but Duckett kept going and passed his previous best of 165, made at the same ground against Australia in the 2025 Champions Trophy. He was eventually caught at short fine leg off a slower full toss from Eshan Malinga in the 42nd over, having hit 24 fours.

Jordan Cox (43 off 27) and Sam Curran (21 not out off 12) pushed England past 375 but Fernando's yorkers at the death kept them 14 short of 400. Eshan Malinga went for 101 in his 10 overs.

Come the chase, Sri Lanka lost Kamindu Mendis early to Sonny Baker, but Avishka Fernando, dropped on six by Baker, and captain Kusal Mendis added 84 to keep pace with the required run rate. Dawson ended that stand, with Avishka holing out to long-off for 48.

Mendis hit five sixes in his 89 off 71 before Joe Root had him caught behind while Dawson trapped Shanaka lbw, reducing Sri Lanka to 186/4.

Rathnayake, though, kept the chase alive, adding 72 off only 38 balls for the fifth wicket with Janith Liyanage, who hit Root for consecutive sixes in an 18-run over. Once Liyanage was caught off Baker at mid-off, Rathnayake added 57 off 41 with Sahan Arachchige.

With dew settling and Sri Lanka needing 112 off 78 balls, the game was still open. But Henry Crocombe removed Arachchige in the 43rd over, Dunith Wellalage was run out after a mix-up before struck twice in the 45th over, first removing the well-set Rathnayake with a top-edged sweep and then having Asitha Fernando caught in the deep. Sam Curran bowled Malinga to finish it in the 46th over.

Brief scores: England 386/5 in 50 overs (Ben Duckett 167; Asitha Fernando 2-63) beat Sri Lanka 331 in 45.1 overs (Pavan Rathnayake 118; Liam Dawson 4-49) by 55 runs.
