Everton have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the Premier League after the 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

There were a number of sub-par Everton performances, with Brennan Johnson receiving the lowest rating.

David Moyes’ team selection has been heavily criticised, as he’s persisting with Johnson over Tyler Dibling, who has impressed in his cameos this season.

Many Toffees supporters are also slamming Moyes for his treatment of Hayden Hackney, who has started just one Premier League game since arriving from Middlesbrough in the summer transfer window.

With that said, they all said the same thing about Hackney on X, formerly known as Twitter, after the Arsenal defeat.

How does David Moyes' response to back-to-back defeats to Chelsea and Arsenal make you feel? 🤔 The Everton boss doesn't seem overly upset despite the losses…

Everton fans urge David Moyes to start Hayden Hackney from now on

Hackney was once again named on the substitutes’ bench yesterday, but he did come on for the final 16 minutes.

Toffees were clearly impressed by the 24-year-old’s cameo, as they all agree he has to start moving forward.

  • “Hayden Hackney is our best central midfielder by a country mile. Head and shoulders above Garner and Armstrong. Open your eyes Moyes or move on.”
  • “Hayden Hackney should be in that side over any of the other 3 in the midfield.”
  • “How can Hayden Hackney not get in this midfield? He’s our best one.”
  • “Hayden Hackney should be playing. I don’t care who with, as he is above the other 2. Moyes needs to either change his philosophy or this isn’t ending well. It’s boring.”
  • “You really have to feel for Hayden Hackney, who looks a very talented footballer.”
  • “Hayden Hackney gives me hope.”
  • “Hayden Hackney has to be starting games.”

According to Sofascore data, Hackney had 21 touches, made seven carries and completed 100% of his 18 passes, so he made an instant impact.

Interestingly, 13 of his 18 passes were in the opposition half, so he was being positive and picking up advanced positions.

The Toffees return to action on Thursday evening as they host Newcastle United in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.

Surely Hackney will be handed a start in the Cup.
