Steve Kerr may need to do a double take the next time he walks into Chase Center. The Golden State Warriors coach spotted a fan who looked almost exactly like him during Friday’s preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Kerr’s stunned reaction made the moment even funnier, and NBA fans were quick to catch on.
During Friday’s 128-118 win for the Warriors, a fan in the stands had the same silver hair, facial features, and overall look as Kerr. The resemblance was so close that a quick glance could leave someone wondering which one was the real coach.
Kerr’s reaction made the clip even better. He appeared genuinely surprised when he noticed his lookalike, giving fans another funny moment to share online.
“Steve Kerr was in disbelief after seeing his doppleganger at the game. This is insane,” one fan wrote.
“For the first 10 seconds of the video i deadass thought i was looking at Steve Kerr,” another commented.
Others had even bigger questions. “Da hell?!” one fan asked, while another joked, “Why are the golden state warriors being cloned?”
“I thought the doppelganger was Steve,” another fan added.
As strange as it looked, this was not the first time the 61-year-old had come across someone who could pass for him. In fact, he has had more than one lookalike moment.
In March 2024, a fan named Steve Gillis went viral during the Warriors’ game against the San Antonio Spurs. Gillis, a teacher and volleyball coach from Las Vegas, looked so much like Kerr that the TV commentators joked, “He looks more like Steve than Steve.”
Even tennis legend Roger Federer took selfies with Gillis during the game. Gillis later told FOX Sports that the resemblance was simply a coincidence.
Then, in October 2025, another Kerr lookalike showed up during Golden State’s 98-79 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. This fan took things a step further by wearing Kerr’s No. 23 Chicago Bulls jersey and walking near the Warriors’ bench with a drink.
Kerr looked back in surprise and even exchanged words as the fan caught the players’ and spectators’ attention.
So, while Friday’s moment looked straight out of The Matrix, Kerr has had a few real-life double-takes at the arena before.
Away from his lookalike adventures, the real Kerr is preparing his team for the regular season. Golden State finished the preseason with a 4-2 record after beating Portland. The Warriors now turn their attention to the regular-season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday.
