Alexander Isak believes Liverpool has “super high” potential under Andoni Iraola this season, but has conceded there is still a lot more for the team to improve on to reach that level.
The Reds have made a steady start since Iraola took over from Arne Slot, with the Dutchman having been fired at the end of last season.
Under the new head coach, Liverpool has lost just the one game to Premier League leader Manchester City, and currently sits fifth in the table with 12 points from seven games, while also making a perfect start to the league phase of the Champions League and progressing in the Carabao Cup.
There have been plenty of encouraging signs from the Reds under Iraola, not least with Isak back among the goals - the Sweden international has five so far, and has already beaten his tally from an injury-ravaged first year at Anfield.
Equally, the first couple of months have presented plenty which can be improved upon if the club is to return to challenging for the title, which Isak has suggested could be possible.
“I think the potential is super high, which is good because I think we can do much better as well so the ceiling is definitely high,” he said in a new interview for the club’s website.
On an individual level, Isak is not setting himself any targets in terms of goals, with the striker eager to make sure he just makes an impact when he’s playing.
“No, not really,” he responded when asked if he had any specific goal targets in mind. “Just try to be on the scoresheet for every game and try to make them count as important ones as well.”
The Reds face another difficult test this weekend as they look to continue their growing form, with Brighton visiting Anfield on Sunday.
Get Liverpool's new 2026/27 home kit
Liverpool FC have launched their new home kit for the 2026/27, inspired by iconic adidas strip worn during the club's 1989/90 title-winning campaign.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side has set its stall out early as a potential surprise title challenger, with the Seagulls currently sitting third on 16 points, and having already scored a staggering 23 goals in just seven games, with Isak under no illusions as to the challenge facing Liverpool.
“It’s definitely one of the tougher opponents that you have in the league but I think in the Premier League in today’s football, there are no easy games,” Isak said.
“So, I don’t think you need any motivation to do that, I think it’s already there. We know it’s going to be tough, but we play at home and we have to go to win.”
