4 things spotted in Liverpool training as Jeremy Jacquet missing amid two more blows

Liverpool continued its preparations for Sunday's huge Premier League encounter with Arsenal, but Jeremy Jacquet was among some notable absentees from training on Friday

Liverpool is preparing for yet another big test this weekend - and one which will tell Andoni Iraola a lot more about his side.

The Reds host Arsenal on Sunday, when they will be hoping to narrow the gap on the defending Premier League champions to three points. With five consecutive wins leading up to the game, questions are already starting to emerge over a potential title challenge.

Iraola isn’t letting himself get carried away just yet, with the Liverpool boss instead choosing to focus on the job in hand. He kept a watchful eye on his players as they undertook training on Friday, although there were some notable absentees.

Here's what we spotted from the latest training session ahead of Sunday's game against Arsenal...

Jacquet missing

This will be a concern for Liverpool fans ahead of such a big game. Although he was pictured at the AXA Training Centre earlier in the day, there was no sign of Jeremy Jacquet with the rest of his teammates on the pitch.

The defender was seen in his training gear having breakfast in the morning, so it's perfectly possible that he may have been taking part in an individual recovery session, much like Bradley Barcola last week.

Given he came into the season having only just recovered from a serious should problem, and his hamstring scare during the international break, there will always be some concern caused by Jacquet's absence. Fingers crossed he will be available for Sunday.

No sign of Szoboszlai or Munoz

Although Iraola suggested there is a chance that Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz could return against Arsenal, Friday's session would suggest that chance is looking slim.

Neither player was pictured in the gym or on the pitch, and with only one more training session to go before Sunday's game, it feels like it will be a big ask for either of them to be in the running to play against the Gunners.

Should they return to training on Saturday, there would of course be a good chance of them making the bench, but we can probably rule out a start for either.

Isak on target

Six goals already for Alexander Isak this season means he has put that nightmare first year firmly behind him, and judging by the footage from training, he isn't about to slow down.

The striker was seen effortlessly fizzing the ball into the top corner on Friday, with goalkeeper Harvey Davies only able to stand and watch.

Coming up against an Arsenal side that still doesn't look to have found a reliable source of goals up front, Liverpool will be hoping Isak might make a real difference. He certainly looks to be in the mood.

Wirtz looking sharp

If ever there was a game for Florian Wirtz to put his stamp on proceedings, this weekend's meeting would be it.

There have been signs in the last few games that the German's fortunes might just be turning now, although we're still a fair way off from him being the game-changing influence that Liverpool hoped it had signed last year.

There were more signs that he might be starting to feel a little more comfortable in his surroundings during training on Friday as he looked sharp and supplied a lovely finish over Alisson Becker at one point. Let's hope that translates to a transformative performance this weekend.
