With only one healthy quarterback on their roster, the Baltimore Ravens have signed Austin Reed, who will likely backup Joe Fagnano during their Thursday Night Football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Reed was signed to the Ravens' practice squad Monday afternoon. He'll likely be elevated to backup status leading up to Thursday's game.
Two-time league MVP Lamar Jackson injured his right thumb on Nov. 1 against the Buffalo Bills, and it will require surgery. Backup Tyler Huntley suffered a turf toe injury, knocking him out of action.
Third string undrafted rookie Fagnano, who played most of Sunday's loss to the Bills, also was banged up by Buffalo's defense, but he's expected to start Thursday.
The fourth QB listed on the depth chart, Skylar Thompson, also is on IR.
Reed played high school football about 40 minutes south of the Jaguars' home stadium at St. Augustine High.
During his six-year college football career, he played for Southern Illinois (2018), West Florida (2019–2021) and Western Kentucky (2022–2023).
He was undrafted in 2024 but signed as a free agent with the Bears. After playing in the preseason and catching on with the Bears' practice squad, he was released prior to the 2025 season.
He played for the Dallas Renegades of the United Football League during their 2026 season, leading the league in passing.
Reed is familiar with the Ravens' playbook. He spent part of training camp and the preseason with the team.
Reed appeared in all three preseason games and completed 6 of 12 passes for 59 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He also ran for a 14-yard touchdown.
Reed also has familiarity with Doyle's offense dating back to when he spent the summer of 2025 with the Chicago Bears and Doyle.
