Shocking team atop the SEC football standings after Week 8

In recent memory there may have not been a college football week as crazy as Week 7. Week 8 wasn't to that level but it still brought college football fans some thrilling endings and big upsets on Saturday. The SEC's unblemished records were of course wiped out a week ago and now SEC teams are looking to fight for the highest position they can possibly be in.

Now, the Georgia Bulldogs and Kentucky Wildcats have the two best records in the SEC. Kentucky is actually atop the conference with a 5-1 SEC record, while Georgia is 4-1 in SEC play. No other SEC has one loss or less, but 10 total SEC teams have two conference losses or less with eight of those teams having two losses.

Nine SEC teams still remain ranked in the top 25 of the US LBM Coaches Poll. The nine teams that are in that poll are, No. 3 Georgia, No. 8 Kentucky, No 10 Alabama, No. 11 Texas, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 13 LSU, No. 17 Tennessee, No. 20 Florida and No. 23 Missouri.

The two upsets in SEC play during Week 8 were the Texas Longhorns defeating Ole Miss by a score of 34-27 and South Carolina defeaating Tennessee 27-24. Both winning teams were at home.

Not an upset by any means but the Alabama Crimson Tide had a narrow 31-20 victory over Texas A&M avoiding a loss in three straight weeks. The game was tight throughout and the Tide found a way to increase the margin toward the end.

SEC teams on a bye week were Arkansas, Florida, Georgia and Missouri.
