The odds were stacked against the Kansas City Chiefs when they went to Lumen Field to take on the Seattle Seahawks in a Week 7 Sunday Night Football game. Thoroughly dominated in every facet of the game, they lost 20-3 to the reigning champs.

But for fans, one of the biggest problems in a dreadful performance of the team was the inconsistency of Harrison Butker. Getting called out for what has become a worrying trend over the last two years, media voices also expressed their concerns over the three-time Super Bowl champion.

Fans Believe Harrison Butker Isn’t Worth the Price for the Chiefs

The Chiefs’ offense managed just three points on the night, as the Seahawks shut down both the pass and the run game. Kenneth Walker III, who was leading the league in rushing yards coming in, was gearing up for a revenge game on his former team.

However, the highest-ranked player in PFN’s Running Back Impact Metric walked away with just 36 rushing yards on 14 carries as Seattle shut shop. Mahomes, too, was largely ineffective, finishing with 165 yards and an interception on 33 passing attempts.

But they did manage to get three field goal opportunities for Butker, who ended up missing a 58-yard attempt at the end of the first half and another 45-yarder early in the fourth quarter when the Chiefs were still within striking distance.

“Harrison Butker’s 15 missed kicks (10 FGs, 5 PATs) since the start of last season are the most in the NFL,” Josh Dubow of the Associated Press reported.

The numbers stunned people on social media, with one fan immediately remarking, “15??? Get this dude off the team.”

Veteran sports analyst Skip Bayless, too, called out Butker, alongside Mahomes himself, for being a disaster on Sunday night, writing, “Mahomes is a Sunday Nightmare. So is Butker.”

One fan confessed, “So done with him and his price tag,” pointing to the four-year extension Butker signed in 2024, worth $25.6 million.

“The Chiefs among the many teams with a kicker problem,” former ESPN reporter Ed Werder wrote, adding them to the growing list of franchises that needed to figure out their special teams unit.

Kurtis Seaboldt argued, “It ain’t just this year,” thanks to the data from Dubow, as the missed kicks were consistently becoming a problem for the Chiefs and their ability to at least add to the scoreboard, even if incrementally.

It remains to be seen if the Chiefs make a major change in moving on from Butker midway through the season. But with a real deficit of viable options across the league, they might not have a much better alternative at their disposal.
