Sixers star highlights impact of LeBron James, champs on the roster

CAMDEN, N.J. -- The Philadelphia 76ers have not won a championship since 1983 when they were led by Moses Malone and Julius Erving. They have not been past Round 2 since 2001 when Allen Iverson threw the franchise on his bony shoulders.

Now, led by proven champions and legends such as LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, the Sixers are hoping to pick up their championship habits in the early going in order to reach where those three have already been in their respective careers.

James stated on media day that he wants to instill those habits into this group while Brown and KCP will look to do the same. With opening night around the corner, Tyrese Maxey is certainly feeling what they can bring to the floor.

"Him (James), JB, KCP, three guys that we have on our team that have won championships," Maxey started. "I mean, Dillon Jones has won championships as well, but we've been talking about that a lot. Championship habits every single day, every single second from doing the same thing over and over and over again. Not deviate from those championship habits."

In order to win a championship, everybody needs to be on the same page. James has mentioned that plenty of times in the past. Caldwell-Pope highlighted the importance of the team liking each other and really building as a group. Brown comes from a tight-knit group in Boston that got the job done.

To begin building that chemistry and make sure everybody understands the importance of cohesion, Maxey has been talking to his teammates on a regular basis in order to get everybody ready for the challenges ahead. Those team bonding activities are so important for this group, specifically.

"We do that," Maxey said succinctly. "We ate dinner, hang out here. I'm supposed to be in the cold tub right now getting my cold tub conversation in, but I gotta talk to y'all (the media). Just doing a good job of communicating. I think I talk to VJ (Edgecombe) on the phone every single day. I play the game with him. I do different things like that. The young guys and then just communicating, communicating, and checking in on each other."

All eyes will be on James and the Sixers when the season opens up on Tuesday when they pay a visit to the defending champion New York Knicks.
