Pratt's rise from Chorley to Blackburn Rovers and Bradford

The Blackburn Rovers defender, flying on loan at Bradford City, was playing at Non-League Chorley this time last year.

During that period, he made his Blackburn Rovers debut and has now established himself at a side competing at the top of League One.

At the age of 22 and without a senior EFL appearance to his name, Pratt would have been forgiven for wondering when his opportunity might come.

It was an injury crisis at Rovers which prompted his recall and an immediately debut at Deepdale against Preston North End.

That was last November, a short period and yet everything feels very different for him now. Whilst Pratt always had self-belief, he admits it's been a dream year.

"It was around this time (he was at Chorley)," he told BBC West Yorkshire.

"I made my debut in November for Blackburn so I was at Chorley. I have been reflecting on where I was last year at Chorley to where I am now.

"It made me realise the quality of football even when you drop down, these players are good. They're part-timer but still good and it shows how hard you have to work to be where you want.

"I didn't want to play at that level, so I knew I had to work harder than people down there. Thankfully, it has worked.

"I wouldn't have expected it all. I have always believed in myself but for it to happen and come true is something I am proud of.

"I try not to overthink; just take every day as it comes to learn and improve. Hopefully, that then gets you somewhere."

Pratt was at a crossroads in the summer. Not first choice at Ewood Park but too good to be sat on the bench, only getting consistent minutes with the 21s.

A loan was the right decision and his club was carefully chosen. As a local lad, Bradford was a perfect fit and despite the upheaval of Graham Alexander swapping Counties with him, he's remained in the team.

Pratt is regularly in contact with Jordan Rhodes, who oversees the loans at Rovers.

"I am in quite regular contact with Blackburn," he explained.

"Jordan Rhodes in my Loan Manager; he comes to quite a lot of games, we speak regularly. I get on really well with him.

"I speak to him even about life; he's someone who works with Blackburn and helps me through everything. Whether it's here (Bradford) or at home.

"It's good to have him around. If there are things I am not doing as well, he gives me pointers and ways I can do things better.

"Then at Bradford, there are people helping me every day too."

Pratt is in a rare position where, despite being 23, he is yet to eclipse 20 professional games. He is acutely aware he is not a youngster anymore, though far less senior in terms of game experience.

That is why coming to a club like Bradford, with quality players and an expectant fan base, was the best move for his development.

"I have only played 18/19 games professionally in my career," he admitted.

"I am still learning from other people. It's something I relish and try to do every day.

"I don't feel super young but I understand there is a hierarchy and others have played more games. They have a better understanding of games than me.

"I don't think I am a youngster but I try to learn. I am not naïve; I haven't played many games so I need to learn from those around me.

"Coming from a Cat 1 Academy, there aren't many long balls and aerial duels so I think that has benefited me in terms of coaching at Blackburn.

"When I was younger, I played in midfield a bit. Not at Blackburn level but at 14/15 before then."
