Sophie Cunningham has been commenting on a clip of Angel Reese from a recent Atlanta Dream vs New York Liberty game that showed the player diving towards an opponent’s legs.

The Dream dominated the series, winning 3-0 to book their place in the WNBA Finals against the Golden State Valkyries.

But after being shown some footage of Reese during game three of the series, Cunningham has expressed some concern about her playing style.

On the latest episode of her ‘No Hesitation‘ podcast, the Indiana Fever star was shown footage of Reese by her co-host, who described it as ‘this one timeout happens right there and another dive at the legs’.

Cunningham responded by saying that she appreciates Angel is a player who goes after the ball and makes extra effort.

However, she went on to say ‘you can’t tackle someone in the air’ and that it is ‘a dangerous play’.

Cunningham said: “Angel is going to play hard. She is a player who goes after the ball. I appreciate that about players of her wanting to get on the floor and make the extra effort. Sometimes, people and the way they carry themselves and who they are, they don’t wanna get down and dirty like this; and she is, so I’m gonna give her credit there.

“But you can’t tackle someone in the air and then go for someone’s knees and ankles. That’s a dangerous play. Technically, both of those are a little dangerous. And for those just to go uncalled, is that not weird? Am I missing something?”

She went on to add that she gets the ‘ick’ when seeing people dive at other people’s knees and ankles because she hurt her knee from something similar, saying that she doesn’t ‘like that’ and ‘one of those has to be called’.

She explained: “Even after the whistle, you can’t hit someone. I know that she was going for the ball and she is trying to make hustle play. Atlanta is kicking a** right now. All 50-50 balls are pretty much Atlanta’s ball. So I’m giving them that work ethic and that grit and that dog. But I also hurt my knee by someone s******* into my knee, and so when I see people dive at people’s knees and ankles, that kind of gives me ick a little bit. I don’t like that. One of those has to be called.”

Now, Reese will turn her attention to the WNBA Finals, which kick off this weekend with game one of the series taking place on Saturday.
