The USA international defender had been absent for several weeks, sparking rumours of a rift with manager Martin O'Neill following criticism of the team's approach against Rangers.
However, he was subbed in for the last 20 minutes in the match against Hibernian, making a crucial block to help secure the win.
O'Neill expressed his delight at Carter-Vickers' return.
He said: "Really satisfying, absolutely.
"Big block for us, as well, too, because it's goalbound.
"I'm delighted that the big players are back."
O'Neill also updated on Carter-Vickers' fitness, saying he seemed to have come through the game without any complaints.
In Carter-Vickers' absence, 23-year-old Dane Murray has stepped up into the squad and impressed O'Neill.
O'Neill praised Murray's potential, saying: "He's missed essentially two years with injury.
"He's got all the potential in the world to be a really fine centre back.
"You have to realise that potential, and eventually, for what he does in his career, will be entirely up to him.
"And I'm delighted for him, because he's a splendid character. As for Scotland? Why not, why not?"
Murray's performances have led O'Neill to tip him for future Scotland honours.
With Carter-Vickers now back, O'Neill will be hoping to have all his players fit and available as Celtic continue their season.
