With the bye week here for the Jacksonville Jaguars, let's take a look at which players received the best PFF grades on defense through the first six games of the season.
Now, before we dive into all that, I do want to mention that while PFF's grading system is certainly helpful at quantifying a player's performance, it is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to evaluations. It is one tool out of many that are out there and should be treated as such.
For some context around these grades, below is the grading scale.
39.9 or less: Poor
90.0+: Elite
80-89.9: High quality
70-79.9: Good
60-69.9: Above average
50-59.9: Average
40-49.9: Below average
Miller is one of PFF's highest-graded linebackers in all of football. He's gotten after the quarterback, been a sound tackler, and limited pass-catchers in coverage.
Hines-Allen has totaled 17 QB pressures this season, along with two sacks, and his run defense grade has helped give his overall grade a boost.
Hamilton has flashed as a pass rusher, logging seven pressures, but his greatest impact has come in the run game. Hamilton's impact may not always show up on the stat sheet, but his ability to eat up space and take on blocks clogs running lanes and helps create opportunities for his teammates.
On 26 targets, Hunter has allowed a completion rate of 61% at 14.6 yards per catch with two red zone interceptions. QBs have a passer rating of just 58.8 when targeting Hunter.
Oluokun has two interceptions and has been a steady tackler as well, not to mention that he's generated six QB pressures as a blitzer. Oluokun and Miller have formed a strong duo.
