The Minnesota Vikings are 6-0 after a 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts at U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday. Kyler Murray completed 14 of 24 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown, and added 39 rushing yards on five carries.

Minnesota has allowed 16 or fewer points in five of its six games. The offense has not scored more than 23 points in a game since putting up 39 on Green Bay in the opener.

Thus, despite their undefeated record, there are fans and football analysts alike calling for a closer investigation into Minnesota’s QB situation. And one name floating around recently is Kirk Cousins.

Those rumors picked up steam last week, when former NFL head coach Jon Gruden pitched the Vikings on trading a second-round pick to Las Vegas in exchange for the 38-year-old quarterback.

The Raiders fell to 3-4 with a 35-21 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, their fourth straight loss. Cousins went 26 of 44 for 295 yards and two touchdowns in that game. This, after starting the season 3-0 with Kirk under center.

Through seven starts, Cousins has completed 161 of 257 passes (62.6%) for 1,877 yards, with 16 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 97.4 passer rating. He has thrown at least two touchdown passes in six of his seven games.

Of course, the only reason Vegas would entertain a trade involving Kirk Cousins is if they are ready to hand the QB1 reins over to 2026 first round pick, Fernando Mendoza. But on Monday, the Raiders’ head coach put any trade rumors involving Cousins to bed, making it very clear that he is their starter and that there is no talk about moving to Mendoza internally.

“All right, I just want to start with, you know, I want to let you guys know that Kirk is our starting quarterback. There is no controversy there. He’s playing at a very high level, and he’s got to continue to do that for us to win, and we got to keep helping all the areas around him. So I’m excited for him to go play here against the Jets, and I’ll take any of your questions.”

“Yeah, eventually Fernando is gonna play football. We have a plan, we don’t have a timeline for that. Kirk’s playing really well, and we’re in the hunt. And it’s really important that we keep playing really well behind him and continue to develop Fernando. But Fernando’s gonna play at some point, okay, it’s not gonna be this week.”

Cousins played six seasons in Minnesota from 2018 to 2023, and he is on a one-year deal in Las Vegas with a $1.3 million cap hit in 2026.

Meanwhile, back in Minnesota Murray is 5-0 as Vikings starter this season. In those games he has completed 83 of 125 passes (66.4%) for 812 yards, with three touchdowns, two interceptions and an 85.8 passer rating, plus 132 rushing yards on 25 carries.

The Cousins idea isn’t just a Gruden thing. On Monday, Phil Mackey (SKOR North) asked listeners to rank Murray, Carson Wentz and a traded-for Cousins on who they would trust most to drive the Vikings offense to Super Bowl contention this year. They also kicked around the idea on their show earlier today.
