Eagles emerge as team to watch as trade deadline approaches

The Eagles’ disappointing start could lead to more roster changes before the trade deadline.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler identified Philadelphia as a potential candidate for a smaller rebuild, reporting that the Eagles frequently come up in conversations about teams that could make moves. That possibility puts added weight on the upcoming stretch against Dallas, Washington, and the Giants. Philadelphia still has a chance to improve its position in the NFC East, but another run of losses would make it easier to justify prioritizing future assets.

I'll start with the Eagles. They come up most often regarding potential moves over the next few weeks. The Eagles are always active, and they could execute a mini-rebuild. Defensive end Moro Ojomo, a 2027 free agent, has strong trade value, so if Philadelphia isn't going to re-sign him, it could get compensatory pick value (or better) for him now. Woolen and wide receiver Hollywood Brown are players teams are watching.

I'm not wholly convinced the Eagles will move a marquee name such as Saquon Barkley. But can they find a taker for guard Landon Dickerson, who appears disgruntled and remains on injured reserve? The Eagles have been forced to reshape their once-vaunted offensive line on the fly, and that could facilitate moves. It's also worth noting that Philly is in the middle of a quarterback shake-up due to Jalen Hurts' absence, and recently acquired QB Joe Milton is a name to watch. The Eagles are struggling mightily to run the ball, and Milton has mobility. He could be worth looking at soon.

The Eagles already moved Cam Jurgens to Baltimore. Further transactions would require balancing the value of additional draft capital against the need to maintain a functional lineup around their available quarterbacks.

Selling selected veterans would not necessarily mean dismantling the roster. Philadelphia could retain its younger core while moving players whose contracts, roles, or future costs make them less certain fits beyond this season. The distinction will matter as the deadline approaches. The Eagles can stay competitive in a struggling division while acknowledging that their roster needs work.

Their next three games should help determine how aggressively they pursue each objective.
