I don't know how Micheal [Carrick] is doing it because it's going to be the same questions that he's going to have to answer, but in a different way.

I'm hoping one of the seniors comes out and explains what's going on.

I'm hoping someone mentions the Martinez stupidity because there comes a time where the punters need to be told something because they are travelling all over the country and at the moment they are getting no honesty, and they are getting a lot of players who aren't putting a shift in like they should be.

I don't think that there are many players in a Manchester United shirt right this moment who are honest with themselves and can look in the mirror and say I'm actually busting a gut every time I put a Manchester United shirt on.

I'm not sure there's many that can.

Man Utd forward Bryan Mbeumo, speaking to TNT Sports:

"A lot of disappointment. I think we have done a lot of right things, especially in the first half when we could have been up one or two-nil.

"I think the first half we had a lot of chances, which is a positive. The last few games we didn't create a lot, but obviously they're a good team with qualities.

"What we have shown today - the mentality was there. Everyone worked really hard and we still have to find some bits at the training ground. Work even harder and yes we have two very important games."

On the players letting the manager and players down today?:"No, obviously not. I think the mentality was there right from the first minute. Harder with 10 men. We still trust everyone. With the men down, we still had some frustrations at the end. But I think we have done everything as a team today.

"Maybe today we just missed some chances. We could have been up early in the game, but that's a positive to take out of this game."

Chelsea forward Morgan Rogers, speaking to TNT Sports: "Massive.

"A difficult week with a poor result last weekend. We knew we had to come out here strong. In the second half, we stamped our authority and that was really good. We deserved the win."

On his goal: "Just to try to commit the defenders. All of a sudden, I was in on goal and had to stay composed. Luckily it went in."

On life at Chelsea: "Loving it. A new challenge and looking forward to playing with these wonderful quality players. It is about the team coming together as a whole. Try to be a leader and stick to what I know best. A good start, but I need to keep going."

On role today: "To try to occupy defenders in whatever space it may be. We were interchanging and doing what was necessary to occupy defenders and drag them out."

On Cole Palmer: "Friendly competition. We always push each other in training every day. If we're both doing well and the team is doing well, that's the most important."

There two sides meet for the second time in three days after Manchester City emerged victorious on penalties against Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Both teams have returned to full strength, with Erling Haaland starting up front for Enzo Maresca's side, but the Italian has dropped Marc Guehi to the bench after a recent run of poor form.

Matheus Nunes has recovered from injury and returns to the starting line-up, with both Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki on the bench.

Man City XI: Donnarumma, Nunes, Dias, Khusanov, Gvardiol, Bouaddi, Anderson, Fernandez, Ndiaye, Doku, Haaland.

Brighton stayed up in Manchester in preparation for this game and have the big guns back in the starting line-up, including striker Charalampos Kostoulas and captain Lewis Dunk.

Wednesday's goalscorers Malick Yalcouye and Georginio Rutter are both on the bench.

Brighton XI: Verbruggen, Costinha, Vuskovic, Dunk, Boscagli, Andres, Gomez, Ayari, De Cuyper, Gross, Kostoulas.

I've been impressed with Manchester United's shape. I think one thing that you've got to ask of United is to be tougher to play through. They've just looked more organised, more compact.

Chelsea found it difficult. So credit to United in the way they've set up.

Manchester United must stay focused here.

They are playing well, they have had chances, they thought they were ahead but they are not.

They cannot take their foot off the gas and they cannot afford to get disheartened.

Bruno Fernandes could not have wished for a better opportunity than that.

Bryan Mbeumo's pass from the touchline was perfect.

Fernandes controlled and while he was running at pace, a player of his ability should be able to control his shot.

Sadly for Manchester United it was way off target. Michael Carrick talks about fine margins. How important a goal that would have been.

We are quite low down here at Stamford Bridge, so the game itself looks far quicker.

However, there does seem to be a noticeable increase in tempo around Manchester United's press and urgency in getting to opponents.

See if it lasts.

Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has not come out for the warm-ups, but his assistant Steve Holland is looking across the pitch from the touchline.

Holland is back on familiar territory, having worked at Chelsea for eight years across a variety of roles before departing in 2017 to work with Gareth Southgate and the England team.

The 56-year-old was viewed as an astute appointment to Carrick's backroom team last season when United surged into third place and secured a return to the Champions League after a two-year absence.

Now, questions are being asked of Holland, given United's inability to control games.

Estevao comes in for his first Premier League start of the season as Xabi Alonso makes four changes to the Chelsea XI that started Wednesday's EFL Cup loss at Liverpool.

The Brazilian winger comes in alongside defenders Levi Colwill and Marco Palestra, while Cole Palmer returns after suspension.

Malo Gusto and Danny Welbeck drop to the bench, Maxence Lacroix is out with a hamstring injury suffered at Anfield and Jordan Henderson is a surprise absentee from the squad.

Chelsea: Penders; Acheampong, Fofana, Colwill, Palestra; Caicedo, Lavia; Estevao, Palmer, Neto; Rogers.

Subs: Sharman-Lowe, Barco, Welbeck, Emegha, Quenda, Gusto, Chavarria, Nicoll-Jazuli, Subuloye.

Chelsea lineup

Bruno Fernandes comes back to captain Manchester United after being dropped for last weekend's home defeat by Bournemouth.

That's one of three changes made by Michael Carrick with Lisandro Martinez and Matheus Cunha also brought in to start.

Ayden Heaven, Mason Mount and Youri Tielemens have to settle for a place among the substitutes, while Kobbie Mainoo is also on the bench after missing United last four games through injury.

Manchester United: Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot; Santos, Baleba; Amad, Fernandes, Cunha; Mbeumo.

Subs: Darlow, Mazraoui, De Ligt, Mount, Zirkzee, Tielemens, Heaven, Lacey, Mainoo.
