Can Montverde Academy girls soccer defend its state title? 5 Eagles to watch

Montverde Academy has established itself as one of Florida's premier girls soccer programs, and the Eagles enter the 2026-27 season with another championship-caliber roster.

Coming off a 21-1-1 campaign that culminated in the FHSAA Class 3A state championship, Montverde returns several key contributors from last season's title-winning team. From an established playmaker in the midfield to proven scoring threats up front, the Eagles have plenty of talent to make another postseason run.

Here are five Montverde Academy girls soccer players to watch this season:

Brianna Burkhalter

Committed to Kentucky, Burkhalter is one of Montverde's most important returning playmakers. She led the Eagles with 23 assists last season while adding six goals, making her a central figure in the team's attacking efforts. Her ability to create scoring opportunities for teammates will be crucial as Montverde looks to defend its state championship.

Vienna Morgan

Morgan gives the Eagles another experienced attacking option. She finished the 2025-26 season with eight goals and 12 assists, showcasing her ability to both find the back of the net and set up teammates. The Ball State commit's versatility should make her an important piece of Montverde's offense.

Lola Rey

The reigning Orlando Sentinel Player of the Year returns as one of Florida's most dangerous attacking players. Rey scored 27 goals and added seven assists last season, including the championship-winning goal in Montverde's Class 3A state title victory. Expect the Georgia State commit to be a focal point in the Eagles' attack.

Kendall Seays

Committed to Indiana, Seays has a ton of experience in Montverde's midfield. She recorded three goals and four assists last season while helping the Eagles navigate their championship run.

Alyssa Strausbaugh

Committed to Catawba, Strausbaugh provides Montverde with an experienced presence in goal. She recorded 18 shutouts last season, playing a major role in the Eagles' defensive success. With another championship pursuit ahead, her ability to keep opposing offenses off the scoreboard will be vital.
