The Charlotte Hornets had a rough night to say the least Friday, suffering a 47-point defeat (128-81) to the Hawks, Atlanta's biggest win in franchise history. During the contest, Hornets fans, who were in attendance for the team's home opener, let the players hear it, showering the team with boos at times. After the game, Hornets head coach Charles Lee had a simple message to his team as it pertained to fans in angst, saying, "If you hear boos, you have to be able to play better basketball."
That's precisely what Charlotte did Saturday, leading for 76% of the game against Miami, with their biggest advantage stretching out to 23 points. In a postgame press conference, Lee spoke about the continued support from fans throughout the victory after upset supporters the day before.
"I loved the support. We're a family; they are part of the Hive, and yesterday was one of those days when your family isn't acting right, you have to let them know, and they did. And we used it as fuel today, and they gave us our flowers today, which is what family does. We love the fans, we appreciate them and we have to get back to work to get ready for Monday."
Now, 2-1 to begin the year, the Hornets have Sunday off before hosting the Washington Wizards Monday, in their third consecutive game at the Spectrum Center.
