A youth soccer game in Florida took a surprisingly dramatic turn when the police were called and a 3-year-old child was asked to leave. The parents of the 3-year-old have said that the youth soccer league got the police involved in the situation because their child is “too good” at soccer.

Video footage of the conflict has gone viral online and sparked a ton of outrage. Even Ms. Rachel has gotten involved.

In 911 audio shared by the police, the league’s director blamed the child’s parents.

Footage circulating online definitely confirms that the 3-year-old, Nevada, is really good at soccer. However, the league director seemed to suggest that the police were called during the game because of Nevada’s parents.

911 audio released by police reveals that the league organizer called the police and said, “It’s not really an emergency; I just have an unruly parent here calling me names…” (per People).

Once officers actually arrived at the game, the director did comment on Nevada’s soccer skills but also alleged that he had been “pushing” other kids.

“He’s very advanced compared to the other ones, so he’s scoring a lot of goals,” the director said. “But he’s pushing the kids and scoring.” The director also claimed that he tried to talk to the refs about the alleged pushing, which reportedly upset Nevada’s parents.

He claimed that it led to “a big scene” in which Nevada’s parents were “arguing with other parents.”

The child’s parents maintain that he’s being unfairly penalized for being good at soccer.

Body cam footage also captured officers speaking to the parents. In the footage, his mom can be heard saying, “They’re mad at my son because he actually plays soccer. They’re literally kicking him out of this place because he’s good at soccer.”

At one point, Nevada’s dad said something similar. “They called the police on a 3-year-old because he’s too good,” he asserted in video footage from the game. “They called the police on a 3-year-old because he had the ball for too long.”

The incident has sparked a ton of outrage online.

Ms. Rachel was among the people who commented on the situation. In an Instagram post, she wrote that she was “livid,” and while she admittedly doesn’t know a lot about sports, she called on people who do to “give (Nevada) all the experiences and love.”

“The police were called on a 3-year-old Black boy because he’s too good at soccer,” she wrote in part. “…I don’t know much about sports but the World Cup and all the famous soccer players need to show up for this amazing 3 year old and shower him with love and awesome experiences!!!”

Police referred to the conflict as “a civil matter” and clarified that it was “not criminal.” They added that “no one was arrested, trespassed, or forced to leave the park.”

The police department did confirm that “the league requested the family leave and offered to refund the league cost to the family.”

The league, i9 Sports, has also addressed the controversy in a statement. “We are aware of concerns being shared regarding an incident at a local i9 Sports program, and we take them very seriously,” the league noted. “The respectful treatment and well-being of every child and family matter deeply to us. We have reached out to the family and have begun a review that includes speaking with those involved.”
