Lane Kiffin’s LSU Sends Strong Message With Blowout of No. 16 Bulldogs
Caleb Williams Lands On Cover Of Madden NFL 27

Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers delivered a statement victory Saturday, shutting out No. 16 Mississippi State 31-0 at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.

The No. 22 Tigers dominated from the opening possession, improving to 5-2 while keeping their College Football Playoff hopes alive.

The victory came at an important time for LSU, which entered the matchup looking to rebound from a disappointing 35-34 overtime loss to Kentucky last weekend.

Quarterback Sam Leavitt led the offensive attack, completing 31 of 38 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns without an interception.

LSU wasted little time establishing control.

Leavitt connected with Eugene Wilson III for a 10-yard touchdown on the Tigers' opening possession, giving LSU an early 7-0 advantage. The defense quickly created another opportunity when Mississippi State backup quarterback Parker Puckett threw an interception on the Bulldogs' next possession.

Leavitt capitalized by finding Jackson Harris for a 27-yard touchdown, extending the lead to 14-0.

The two connected again in the second quarter, this time for a 17-yard score that sent LSU into halftime leading 21-0.

Mississippi State struggled to find answers against the Tigers' defense.

The Bulldogs were without starting quarterback Kamario Taylor and leading rusher Fluff Bothwell because of injuries, forcing Puckett into the starting lineup. The freshman completed 16 passes for 121 yards but was unable to lead Mississippi State into the end zone.

LSU continued its dominance in the third quarter, adding 10 more points to put the game out of reach.

Harris finished with six receptions for 85 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Dilin Jones contributed 84 rushing yards. The Tigers also held Mississippi State to 121 passing yards and forced the Bulldogs to play from behind throughout the afternoon.

The result gives LSU its second victory over a ranked opponent this season and improves its SEC record to 2-2.

Mississippi State falls to 4-2 after entering the matchup with just one loss.

Saturday's win gave LSU something it had been searching for: a complete performance on both sides of the ball.

Now the challenge is proving it was more than a one-week breakthrough.

The Tigers travel to Auburn next Saturday with little margin for error after two losses, but if LSU can carry this level of execution into the rest of its SEC schedule, Kiffin's team may still have a chance to reshape the direction of its season.
