Giants waive ex-Chiefs QB in Week 9 ahead of 2026 NFL trade deadline

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 in Houston, the New York Giants waived former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Jake Haener on November 5 ahead of the 2026 NFL trade deadline.

Haener started his career as a fourth-round pick of the New Orleans Saints in the 2023 NFL Draft and played in the Big Easy for three seasons. He signed with the Chiefs earlier this year on February 2, but was waived by Kansas City shortly after the 2026 NFL Draft on May 4.

A former Washington Husky and Fresno State Bulldog, Haener earned first-team All-Mountain West honors as a collegian but only managed to make one start during his mostly unremarkable tenure in New Orleans.

Fans should expect Haener to have no problem finding work on the practice squad of a quarterback-needy franchise during the second half of the regular season, though it would be a stretch to think he will take the field this year.
