Liverpool were not happy with a number of decisions made by referee Andy Madley during their Premier League defeat to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds were beaten 1-0 by the reigning Premier League champions at Anfield, with Kai Havertz's 16th minute goal proving to be the difference between the two sides.

Liverpool were aggrieved that they weren't given a spot-kick when Jurrien Timber tugged Alexander Isak's shirt in the first-half, preventing him from having a header at goal. Ex-PGMOL chief Keth Hackett believes referee Andy Madley should have awarded a penalty.

Madley also didn't point to the spot when Cody Gakpo fell to the floor after a tussle with Christos Tzolis, while Noni Madueke was not punished after going head-to-head with Alexis Mac Allister.

Liverpool fans are even more annoyed with Madley after tunnel footage from half-time emerged. In the clip, taken just as Arsenal's players were about to make their way back on to the pitch for the second half, Madley can be seen laughing and joking with Gabriel. The two then share a first bump before the Arsenal star joins his teammates in making his way on to the pitch.

Liverpool fans have vented their fury at the tunnel footage, with some even demanding that an investigation is carried out.

"Wtf is this all about? Seriously needs investigating," one fan said, while another commented: "Ref is far too friendly. No wonder they get accused of favouritism. Ref should be out on the pitch before the teams."

A third said: "Fed up of seeing these officials fanboying our opposition." A fourth wrote: "WHAT THE ACTUAL F*** AM I SEEING????!??"

"Would love PGMOL to explain this," a fifth stated, while a sixth commented: "I was really shocked when I saw this footage. And it was at this point I gave up..."

Footage of Madley with Gabriel when they were making the way off the pitch after full-time has also angered Liverpool supporters.

Andoni Iraola Fumes Over Refereeing Decisions

Andoni Iraola said after the match he will encourage his players to go down in future after they were denied a spot-kick against Arsenal.

Speaking about his side not being given a penalty when Timber grabbed Isak's shirt, Iraola told the BBC: "There is a clear grab [of] the shirt. Alex was just in front of him, he was going to head in front of the goal but couldn't because he had the shirt. I don't understand why they didn't call it, probably because he has not gone to the floor."

He added: "I think the Gakpo one was not a penalty but the Alex one... He was going to head the ball in front of the goalkeeper. He grabbed the shirt. I don't understand why it wasn't called. You have to dive, if you don't dive they won't call it."

Virgil van Dijk also vented his frustration. He said: "We have 50 cameras. Why does he [Isak] have to complain when there are so many cameras. Everyone has seen it. In the end it wasn't given and we lose the game unfortunately, so well done to Arsenal."

Liverpool are in Champions League action on Wednesday when they travel to Turkey to take on Fenerbahce. They face Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday, November 8.
