Luc Evans receives his player of the year award from Ian Gough in 2024
Tributes have been paid to a brave teenage Welsh rugby player who has died after a battle against a brain tumour.
Haverfordwest RFC player Luc Evans, 16, passed away on Friday evening after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma just over two years ago.
Luc was initially given between nine and 12 months to live as he underwent treatment at Velindre cancer centre in Cardiff and the Royal Marsden in London, where he took part in a clinical trial for a new drug. He continued to enjoy playing sports when he could, despite his illness, and was helping out on his family's farm on the outskirts of Haverfordwest until shortly before his death. His remarkable bravery inspired his family and all those who knew him.
Dad Eifion, mum Karen and siblings Nia, 22, Huw, 20, and Jac, 14, have paid tribute to Luc.
"He was a quiet, lovely lad. He never shed a tear in front of us," Eifion said. "He just got on with it after his diagnosis and took it on the chin. He knew what he had but he wasn't going to let it stop him.
"He was diagnosed back in August 2024. He had never been ill before, was enjoying his rugby and then he started having a couple of seizures and everything suddenly changed when the diagnosis came.
"It's obviously really difficult for us as a family right now but we have to keep going for him.
"We have had so much support from people in the rugby community that we are very grateful for."
That support has included Wales and Scarlets scrum-half Gareth Davies, who wore special boots for Saturday night's match against Newcastle that were emblazoned with Luc's name. Following his try-scoring performance, Davies messaged Eifion to say: "He came into my mind as soon as I scored that try last night, Eifion. That was for him!"

Luc's Haverfordwest RFC coach, Trigger Brazell, described the back-rower as an "inspiration", who was an outstanding leader among his peers.
"He was polite, respectful and just a great young man from a great family," he said.
"Luc was known as our silent assassin, never one to say much, but he led by example and showed great leadership skills. When he spoke, everyone listened.
"These attributes stayed with him, working and living life to the full. He was a true inspiration
"Luc, you will always be part of this bunch, always inspiring us."
Luc with Sam Warburton when he began his treatment
A minute's silence was held for Luc ahead of all the club's matches this weekend as the community comes to terms with the tragic news.
Luc had played for the club since under-12s and was voted players' player of the year at the end of the 2024 season, just a couple of months before his illness was discovered. The Ysgol Caer Elen pupil received his award from former Wales international Ian Gough, while was also visited by Wales legend Sam Warburton when he started his treatment at Velindre.
His school, rugby club, family and friends had all raised close to £50,000 for cancer-related charities throughout his battle.
