Texans DE Will Anderson 'has a ton of respect' for QB Justin Herbert

After their bye week, the Houston Texans are looking to get back in the win column when they face the Los Angeles Chargers this Sunday.

The Texans and Chargers are actually quite similar this year. Both went to the playoffs last season and are underperforming this season.

But the Chargers, who tried to fix their offense by adding former Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator, have been a bigger disappointment than the Texans. Los Angeles has yet to win a game this season. Its offense is abysmal, especially in the passing game.

Quarterback Justin Herbert leads the league in interceptions with 10 and has had at least one turnover in every game this season. He has also not thrown a touchdown in the past two games. Nonetheless, Houston’s defense is not taking this matchup lightly.

“He's still a really great quarterback in this league. You talk about a big guy that has a big arm that can run around, that can throw the ball deep, makes a lot of plays with his legs. He's still a very respectable player in this league and we have a ton of respect for them," All-Pro defensive end Will Anderson said. "As far as scheme, we're going to probably see a lot of bounce. McDaniel, he's went against this defense a lot of times, coached against his defense at San Fran. We know what to expect a little bit, but Herbert, he's playing out of his mind. They have a really great solid offensive line as well and some really good running backs that can get downhill, that can hit the perimeter; it's going to be a good challenge for us.”

The biggest change for Los Angeles’ offense from last year has been the arrival of McDaniel. His offense was bad with Miami in 2025, but still not as bad as the Chargers ' offense a year later. This has led to questions of whether he should be calling the plays, although nothing has changed so far.

For the Texans, this struggling offense is an opportunity to get their third win of the season.

Winning this game could help increase their slim chances. However, a loss would also certainly drop their playoff chances close to zero.

Kickoff from SoFi Stadium is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
