Seven days after netting an NBA season-high 52 points, Luka Dončić stirred up more Sunday magic.
And this time, it was a one-of-one performance.
Lakers 131, Raptors 125: To cap Halloweekend, Luka delivered a monstrous stat line of 45 points, 15 boards, 6 dimes and 5 steals while draining eight 3s as the Lakers held off Scottie Barnes (29 pts, 6 reb, 5 ast) and improve to 5-2. | Recap
The first game of the NBA season saw the Celtics surrender a 22-point lead in a loss to Detroit.
Boston hasn’t lost since.
Celtics 108, Magic 97: Holding a four-point edge with 3:41 left, Jayson Tatum (32 pts, 7 ast, 2 blk) delivered back-to-back clutch buckets before Paul George (17 pts, 8 ast) buried a dagger 3 to secure the C’s fifth straight win. | Recap
Tatum wasn’t alone in joining some special company Sunday.
And the C’s weren’t the only team to extend their win streak.
Warriors 124, Clippers 112: With Steph Curry out (back), rookie Yaxel Lendeborg took his breakout party to another level, dropping 37 points on six 3s along with 4 boards and 6 dimes to lead Golden State past LA for its fourth straight win. | Recap
Nets 98, Pacers 90: Julius Randle (20 pts, 6 ast) and Day’Ron Sharpe (15 pts, 13 reb) controlled the paint, while Michael Porter Jr. scored a team-high 23 points as the Nets topped the shorthanded Pacers for their first win this season. | Recap
Only one unbeaten team remains in the NBA. And for the first time in league history, it’s the Memphis Grizzlies.
Tonight on League Pass (8 ET), the Grizzlies will look to achieve their first-ever 7-0 start, facing Zion Williamson and the Pelicans.
How’d Memphis get to 6-0? With elite play on both ends, powered by a breakout rookie and a veteran marksman who’s caught fire.
Right behind Memphis in the West standings sit the 6-1 Rockets, a squad firing on all cylinders offensively.
The only team that’s knocked off Houston? That would be Dallas, which is heating up behind Cooper Flagg’s sophomore surge.
The reigning West champion Spurs are also streaking, bouncing back from an 0-2 start with four straight dubs.
More Out West: Deni Avdija and the Blazers are also off to a strong start at 4-1, while the 4-2 Thunder (Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, Cason Wallace) and 4-3 Wolves (Anthony Edwards) navigate key early-season injuries.
Two weeks into the season, the East is already heating up, with familiar contenders setting the pace and new faces making their mark.
Philly Flying: Amid a star-studded core, Tyrese Maxey has taken the lead for the 6-1 Sixers, building on last season’s career year with a scorching start.
Tied with Boston for 2nd place and sitting just a half-game back of Philly are the 5-1 Pistons, the only team to beat the Sixers this season.
And after racking up an East-best 60 wins last season, Detroit is leaning on a familiar formula.
One game back of Detroit and Boston sit the 4-2 Cavs, who rank 2nd in scoring (121 ppg), with Donovan Mitchell (22.7 pts) leading seven players averaging double figures.
In Washington, AJ Dybantsa (18 ppg) is already electrifying the District through his first two NBA games.
Meanwhile, Jalen Brunson and the 2-4 Knicks look to gain ground as they host the Nets in the Battle of the Boroughs (7:30 ET).
Two weeks into the NBA season, several teams are climbing the standings, and they’re making moves in John Schuhmann’s latest Power Rankings, too.
From unbeaten Memphis to a red-hot Golden State squad, three teams made notable climbs in this week’s rankings. Read more later today on the NBA App when the full list comes out.
Grizzlies (Ranked 17th last week ➡️ 5th this week): “Since the league expanded to 30 teams in 2004-05, every team that started 6-0 has gone on to make the Playoffs, with 19 of the 20 having finished as a 5 seed or higher and 18 of the 20 having won at least one Playoff series.”
Warriors (26 ➡️ 15): “The Warriors account for three of the 11 games where a team has made at least 20 3-pointers. No other team has had more than one.”
Mavericks (20 ➡️ 14): “Cooper Flagg is 8-for-9 on clutch shots (with the score within five points in the last five minutes of the fourth quarter or OT), and he’s 11-for-14 from mid-range over the Mavs’ three-game winning streak.”
November is here, and fantasy managers have an early chance to spot emerging contributors before they become coveted waiver-wire additions.
Ahead of Week 3, RotoWire’s Mike Barner highlights several players worth targeting, including these two High Score league options:
Terrence Shannon Jr.: “He scored 19 points against the Warriors and is now averaging 14.2 points for the season … There could be nights in which he explodes in the scoring column, making him an intriguing option for this format.”
Mikel Brown Jr.: “The Nets have been cautious with their prized rookie as he comes back from an ankle injury that plagued him during the preseason. However, he is already one of the most talented scorers on the Nets behind Julius Randle and Michael Porter Jr.”
