Mike McDaniel will remain the Chargers’ offensive playcaller

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said that the team would spend their bye week “looking into everything” when it came to improving their offense and did not rule out a change involving offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel.

McDaniel was not dismissed and he hasn’t lost one of his primary job responsibilities either. Harbaugh confirmed at a press conference on Wednesday that McDaniel will continue to call the team’s offensive plays when they return to action against the Vikings on Sunday.

McDaniel’s future was in doubt because the offense was a disaster over the course of the team’s 0-6 start. They are averaging a league-worst 15 points per game while turning the ball over more frequently than any of the other 31 teams, so there’s a lot of room for improvement once the team is back on the field.

The Vikings are a tough defense to face when you’re trying to get an offense on track, but that’s the challenge McDaniel will have to meet for the Chargers to find their first win of the season.
