Caleb Williams is a top-10 NFL quarterback, Sam Darnold has work to do

Last season, Caleb Williams rose to stardom and showed he is ready to take his place as a top-10 quarterback in the NFL. This season, in just four games, it looks like no more than four quarterbacks are better than the former Trojan. Sam Darnold initially looked like he was regressing this season, but after a big win against the Kansas City Chiefs, he could be ready to regain his place as a top-10 QB in the league.

Both quarterbacks will match up on Monday Night Football with a lot to prove. Right now, Caleb Williams is viewed in higher regard. Caleb Williams has missed four games this season, yet he still has 1020 yards passing, 5 touchdowns, and only 1 interception. Williams has been a totally different quarterback in terms of his efficiency and accuracy, two of his biggest flaws last season. Compared to his 2025 completion percentage of 58.1, this season he has completed an impressive 71 percent of his passes.

His completion percentage is going up, and playing more on time has not stopped him from being the star escape artist or big-time thrower on the run. He is the same dynamic creator, just a lot more efficient. That spells trouble for the rest of the NFL and gives the Bears everything they have been wanting at the quarterback position. Now Caleb Williams is one of the more feared quarterbacks in the league and is headed to taste more than just regular-season success. He is a top 5 quarterback in the NFL, and the entire league knows it.

Sam Darnold has taken a step back in production as he is adjusting to his new offensive coordinator. Darnold has 1,290 passing yards, 8 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. At this point in the season, Darnold has played himself out of top ten quarterback rankings. He more than likely sits as at worst the 15th best quarterback in the NFL. There is a lot of season left to play, and there is more than enough time for Darnold to earn back his credibility as a top quarterback in the league.

Outplaying Caleb Williams in a primetime game after his last primetime win could elevate Darnold up the rankings. Caleb Williams, if he plays well against the Seattle Seahawks' defense in a primetime game, could put his hat in the ring for NFL MVP. A statement will be made by either quarterback in Week 8.
