Wycombe back to winning ways after Notts County victory

The Chairboys enjoyed plenty of possession during the opening half and moved the ball well in the final third, but initially struggled to test visiting goalkeeper James Belshaw.

Dan Harvie saw an early effort blocked before Jayden Wareham's overhead kick drifted just over the crossbar inside the opening 10 minutes.

Jamie Mullins, one of five changes to the starting line-up from last weekend’s loss against Luton Town, also tried his luck from distance, but his effort struck Wareham, who was standing in an offside position.

Notts County, making their first visit to Adams Park since August 2017, soaked up the pressure but failed to make the most of their opportunities on the counterattack.

The deadlock was finally broken a minute before half-time through captain Jack Grimmer one minute before the break.

A neat move involving Harvie, Cauley Woodrow and Mullins saw the ball fall kindly to the Scotsman, whose long-range strike took a deflection off Max Sanders before flying beyond Belshaw and into the net.

It was Grimmer's second goal in as many games.

Wycombe continued where they left off after the break, remaining firmly in control as Connor Taylor and Caolan Boyd-Munce both went close.

Josh Scowen then forced a smart save from Belshaw with a powerful volley on 72 minutes.

Earlier in the half, Harvie had seen another effort blocked, while Fred Onyedinma dragged a shot wide.

The visitors rarely threatened but created their best openings through substitute Daniel Kanu.

The striker first saw an effort blocked by Taylor before sending a follow-up attempt wide of the target.

The final stages became increasingly tense as Notts County pushed forward in search of a way back into the game, but Wycombe's defence stood firm.

The points were secured with five minutes remaining when Onyedinma headed home from close range after Harvie flicked on a Boyd-Munce corner.

The victory was Wycombe's first against Notts County since December 2016 and their first home win over the Magpies since November 2007.
