Hibs deserved all three points in Paisley claims Marink Reedijk

MARINK Reedijk believes Hibs should have left Paisley with all three after a spirited performance on the road.

Hibs battled hard throughout the 90 minutes, controlling possession and territory for the majority of the game.

With 12-minutes remaining Marko Ivezi? stabbed the ball home from close range, sparking wild celebrations in the away end.

But the hosts hit back moments later, through a set-piece of their own with the ball deflecting off Jason Kerr on its way in – and in the end, Hibs had to settle for the draw.

“It’s a little bit of a double feeling for me,” Reedijk told Hibs TV.

“When you’re so close to the win, especially when you score relatively late and then concede, it feels like a disappointment.

“However, it was good to see a dominant team again, defending on the front foot and regaining a lot of balls high up the pitch.

“We stayed patient, although the opponent built a block in front of their own box, but we did well, kept on fighting, kept doing things together and maintained our intensity.

“That was brilliant to see, and again we’re seeing steps forward, and now we’re also making a little step in terms of points.

“I wanted it to be a bigger step, though, and take home all three [points].”

The Hibs Manager admitted he was frustrated not to see the game out after working so hard to take the lead.

He said: “We worked so hard to get that goal to put us in front because this wasn’t an easy match.

“The way St Mirren play makes them difficult to break down.

“Once you break them down, you need to be calm and composed and make sure you see the game out and get it over the line.

“I think there were one or two moments when we didn’t do that, and then they got in behind us.

“Before the goal, we didn’t give away a lot of chances, perhaps nothing, but I need to watch it back to be sure.

“After we scored, we also didn’t give much away, but there was just one moment, and that’s the reason we’re not taking home all the points tonight.”

Despite the overall result, Reedijk was pleased with the effort and application of his players throughout the game, insisting there were plenty of positives and improvements within the group.

He added: “If you look at how many times we regained the ball high up the pitch, how many times they got into our half, and how often they managed two or three passes before we recovered the ball again, that was really good.

“I also think that, on the ball, we’re gradually moving towards our way of playing and creating chances.

“I think that will improve because this was another style of play compared with what we faced over the previous three matches.

“We had to adapt, and I think we adapted well today.”
