With the New York Giants reportedly among the teams in hot pursuit of a Jonathan Taylor trade, an NFL insider has opened the door to a deal instead with their in-state rivals, the New York Jets.

The Giants are among the playoff contenders looking to make a splash before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline. Entering Week 9, they own a 4-2-1 record and sit atop the NFC East standings. This time a year ago, they owned a 2-5 record and were headed in the wrong direction. Now, under new head coach John Harbaugh, they have reason to shop for upgrades with the division title in reach.

New York wants to improve their backfield options, and according to a report from A to Z Sports on Thursday, the Giants and New England Patriots are among the teams that have shown interest in the Indianapolis Colts star. Yet, the price to acquire the three-time Pro Bowler is steep.

In a Friday update, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer claimed that a trade may now cost as much as a first-round pick, or something similar to what the San Francisco 49ers sent the Carolina Panthers for Christian McCaffrey three years ago. That trade package included a 2023 second-, third-, and fourth-round pick. As well as a 2024 fifth-rounder.

That may be a price that is too rich for the Giants. So they need to consider alternative options. Like Tennessee Titans RB Tony Pollard or future Hall of Famer Derrick Henry. But what about Jets veteran Breece Hall?

Should the New York Giants pursue a Breece Hall trade?

Recent reports have suggested Gang Green doesn’t plan to be a seller before Nov. 10. However, Hall has missed games this year, and in his place, 2024 fourth-round pick Braelon Allen has played very well. Rushing for over 100 yards in three of their last four games. He has given the Jets even more reason to consider moving Hall for draft capital in what will be another losing season.

Sportsnaut asked Casino Guru’s Jason La Canfora if Hall could be a backup option for teams, like the Giants, that fail in their pursuit of Taylor. And the NFL insider had an interesting response.

“Teams will ask about him, and they will ask about Garrett Wilson, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see one dealt. The contract extension doesn’t really matter in the end. Ask Jeffery Simmons!” La Canfora said.

The extension he is referring to is the three-year, $43.5 million pact Hall signed with the Jets in the offseason. Simmons signed a three-year, $105.8 million extension before this season and was still traded by the Tennessee Titans to the Chicago Bears last week.

While Hall is not as good as Taylor, a combo backfield with Cam Skattebo could be outstanding in the second half. Hall has 1,000-plus rushing-yard talent, but he can also make an impact in the passing game. Furthermore, the Giants might be able to acquire him for a package that begins with a third-round pick.
